Jack the ripper could have been a Predator . he would have to have been a pretty sick and perverted Bad Blood though.

I found A-R to be a fine movie right up till the Crying Skeletor with Tits showed up.

There are some small aspects of each movie I do like but overall, they're both disasters. We were promised so much leading up to both films and were let down each time.

I think AVP is a fine movie actually. Now, I don't think its great by any means, but I think it gets a much worse rap than it deserves. I think its a lot like the Roland Emmerich Godzilla movie. If taken as its own as a summer popcorn action monster flick, its an enjoyable ride. If, however, you try and take it as part of a larger whole of a storied franchise (or in this case, two), then it just doesn't hold up very well.
Yes, there were lots of problems with the movie. Yes, Anderson's an idiot. But I still enjoy the movie simply because its adequate. Which is far more than can be said for AVPR.

Hey! I'm glad I found this site, I need to talk about this stuff! Nice to meet u all.
I have been trying to decide how I felt about these movies for a long time, but kept putting off coming to a final decision. But after the other day, I came to my conclusion(for now at least)..
1. AVP- The problem I always had with this movie was its mass appeal PG13 rating and it seemed kinda corny that a Predator and a human(Alex) would become buddies. It has a decent plot IMO, and the special effects look good. I liked that badass Alien who got the scars from that net trap all over it, it killed 2 Predators! But then it dies randomly from that bomb. Lame, not even a final fight? Also, there was no character development. I never really cared who lived or died. I blame the director for a lot of the problems. Some of his, no MOST of his past movies are the same(except Event Horizon). Anyways, the other day I put AvP on while my girlfriend was over, not expecting her to pay attention or even like it. I thought it would just be background noise. But as the movie went on, she got into it. And during the parts which I always felt were lame, when the Predator is giving Alex the weapons, etc, she kept saying “aww he’s so nice, aww he’s so cute”. It was pretty funny. So basically that movie has now got her into the whole Alien/Predator universe. That made me realize that AvP can be used like a “gateway” movie. Its less serious than the real movies, but it has enough substance in it to attract ppl who otherwise might not be interested in these characters, thus leading them down the road to eventually become a genuine fan of all the series. So its good enough, and achieves what it attempts to do.
2. AVP:R- I wanted this movie to be good so bad. Instead it was so good at being bad.
It has a few cool scenes, but overall this one was/is a huge disappointment. Don’t even care enough to say more.

AvP has grown on me now I gotta admit, it does have a more classy look n feel over AvP2 which does seem more like a cheap 80's style jason slasher now.

The more I watch AvP, the more I dislike it. The more mistakes I see. I doubt I will ever like it.

I think its a lot like the Roland Emmerich Godzilla movie. You mean how both had decent effects but were otherwise shite? Godzilla wins though cos it's got Jean Reno in.

As well as a split second shot of Gary Oldman, 0.01 of Gary Oldman > no Gary Oldman.
