As well as a split second shot of Gary Oldman, 0.01 of Gary Oldman > no Gary Oldman. Eh?

Currently seeking Jagermeister sponsorship. One'a these days Sean Pertwee's gonna be in a movie where he doesn't die and he's going to kill every motherfucker ever.

What do you expect when two sci-fi franchises are combined in a cinema movie?
Has this ever been done before in history?
What would have happened if the Die hard series was combined with The dirty harry Series?
As far as i can see it has never been done before.
Both franchises did very well alone and at the time everyone was very exited at the prospect and it seemed like a good thing to do.
And it was.
It wasn't as good as everybody hoped it would be but it was still a good movie.
So yes I liked it but it will never be in the same class as aliens or predator2.

Has this ever been done before in history? Freddy vs. Jason is the most recent example pre-AvP. Plus Godzilla vs King Kong, Dracula vs Frankenstein. There was also Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman - a crossover sans 'vs' in the title. Oh and Bambi Meets Godzilla. Whether these films are good or not they carry an air of cheap exploitation about them simply from the title, which was one of the reasons Siggy baulked back in the early 1990s. AvP has only confirmed the 'cheap exploitation' thing.

sorry for my lack of knowledge
in movie terms it's only aliens/predator/terminator/robocop (1&2) that concerns me.
i don't know but the latest sci-fi movies just doesn't cut it for me
matrix was good mainly because the concept was excellent
is there any thing outside a & p that impressed you in the last 5 years and why

Sunshine for one. The plot, was brilliant, the acting was topnotch, the special effects were out of this world (no pun intended) and it was pretty solid directing.
Sta Wars: Revenge of the Sith was one. Just for pure awesome. You could talk about Indy 4.
I also liked War of the Worlds, and The Mist had a few science fictiony bits in it.

Primer - low budget time travel story, makes up for lack of special effects with lots of time travel shenanigans.
Code 46 - SF retelling of the Oedipus story - has the most fully realised near-future SF world I've seen since Blade Runner.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - well written and filmed memory story, bit like a suburban Total Recall, more PKD than Verhoeven though!
Children of Men - SF dystopia with a nicely realised world.
Lots of fun stuff in the last 5 years, but these were the standout achievements for me.

I liked V - it was a lot better than I feared it would turn out - but for me it was more of a superhero film than SF.

Really? I didn't even think of it that way. I thought of it as a conspiracy thriller. I mean, now that you mention it, it didn't even occur to me to see it as a superhero film!

I'm a alien!

They tried to advertise it as a superhero movie and stuff, but there really wasn't enough action for it to fit into the genre, imo. It's a thriller/drama to me, just happens to have a few action beats in it.
