Still an idea, is if this thing goes ahead, I would suggest trying to obtain more that one camera (I can use/ convert most of the formats out there) and suggest to clump the cameras off center to one side of the subject (one for close up, one for medium shot, one for wide shot) it doesn't matter if they are all different formats as I use HD/HDV camcorders mixed with SD camcorders and edit in Vegas which does a pretty good job in reducing them all into a SD DVD for final rendering.
Sounds like a great idea. I have a SD MiniDV camcorder and I can probably borrow one or two more. Once done I could post the raw DV files to my FTP for your download pleasure.

SiL pointed me to this. I'm in the UK (midlands, Derby-way). Obviously an Alien fan and have a diploma in Moving Images. I wouldn't know what the Hell I'd say on the documentary though.

Damn! Someone beat me to it. I think this forum should make a documentary about the subject. We certainly have enough filmmakers here, and fans.

Maybe we could do a collaboration? SiL pointed me to this. I'm in the UK (midlands, Derby-way). Obviously an Alien fan and have a diploma in Moving Images. I wouldn't know what the Hell I'd say on the documentary though. You could do a karaoke spot? And the truth shows its .. lovely ... face. The documentary of Alien fans. I *so* want to see the result! The next step - world domination! I don't see why someone else doesn't have a go at world dominance. Sounds like a great idea. I have a SD MiniDV camcorder and I can probably borrow one or two more. Once done I could post the raw DV files to my FTP for your download pleasure. Great, once you have the gear ready we could do a quick test on Skype to make sure things are setup and go for it. I was thinking that a first come, first serve basis for the structure would be a good start. Not that far...
Distance is no object now, did Spock say that?

I've done a few documentaries and interviews during my time in school so I've got the basic know-how to set up and frame/light this stuff since unfortunately I don't have the money and to go to London for the moment. I've got three cameras at home, each one better than the other, but still all right. I think I could have something interesting to contribute growing up with the Alien franchise during the 90's (I'm only 21!), kindof a younglings perspective on things. Nowhere in the of stretch of 20 minutes though! If you tell me how you want the shots to be framed - besides the wide, mid and close up shots - with the slight offset to the left or right, the angle and what not I can do some test shots and send your way to see if you're pleased. Or perhaps you're not that picky? PS: I merged your posts together, you can add multiple quotes to one post if you scroll down and click 'Insert Quote' of the post you want to cite!

All ages are welcome 3 cameras are ideal and I would suggest you have them to one side of your monitor clumped together (one wide angle, one mid shot, one close up) and I was going to leave the lighting to whatever suits people's individual taste. If we set up a Skype connection then we could talk a bit more naturally and generally I'm only looking for 5-8 mins of cut material from each person (generally around 20 mins of actual footage before cutting) The cameras just have to be roughly the same height as your head when you're sitting down. I'm not too picky about which side (on my setup I would place the cameras to the right of my monitor though as I have enough space there) Thanks for the multiple quotes trick - I'll bear that in mind for the future.

I thought of you and Darkness right away. You guys should jump on this. One time where living on this side of the pond is a major disadvantage! Personally I don't have the cameras or related hardware to do it remotely, but if I can manage to get my hands on something I'd love to do the Skype thing.

I would start to pull on your friends for hardware Pete, they could even be the camera crew.

Great freaking idea with the Skype thing. I'll begin scouting for locations to shoot since I'd prefer if it was something a bit more.. alien than say your average bedroom chamber or living room. I think there's some abandoned warehouses near where I live.
Ofcourse it will make things difficult if we're using Skype, but I think there's Skype for the iPhone too, which I could connect to a small speakerset so I can hear you better. Only problem is that you'll probably have a hard time catching my words.
I'll meditate further on this.
Have to decide wether I'll use an American or British accent. I find myself often adapting to the accents of those around me. Maybe I'll gradually shift to one another, Golic style!

Great idea with the location, why not do a Ridley Scott accent? (Northern / Newcastle accent) I'll do some research on the Skype for iphone too EDIT: Yes iphone do Skype to Skype but we should do a quick test before we go with it. BUT it seems you have to be on a 3 network.

You'll be able to interview fans from round the globe! I wonder how similar the experiences will be? I'll just have to wait n see! Wonder if you'll get fans from all the major continents? Could happen being the internet fan base is so large.

Interesting thread – I've just completed a documentary on Aliens fans myself for the upcoming Quadrilogy. I've only recently signed up to this site and my film was made with another Aliens site, but there is rich pickings here at the Alien Experience -- and since I'm not in my own film maybe I could have something to say on yours, LOL!
Sounds like a good approach to the project. One things for sure - there is no shortage of engagement on this forum! :-)

OK, as of right now I've got 2 cameras, and one tripod. I should have a third camera and another two tripods as of Tuesday (21 July). I may also need to get a new web cam as the mic on my current cam seems to have gone tits up. But I should have that by Tuesday as well. One thing: none of the cameras are professional grade camcorders. They're of the type used for capturing family moments and such. (none of my friends have the high-end cameras). Will that be an issue?
