So now that I'm through with film school, I thought I'd post up some of my work.

Other stuff that may or may not be worth watching (and be sure to watch in HIGH QUALITY yeah, whatever):

Locked Out
My grad film -- written, directed, shot, edited, scored and partly voice acted by myself.  I tried to keep the script as simple as possible to save myself the headaches which often plague student films, but the production of it was anything but.  I think it turned out alright.  Visually, at least.

Special Delivery
A little directing assignment to illustrate the passage of time.  We kinda missed the point, but the finale was just too brilliant to ignore.  And I make the most awesome cameo ever.

It's actually the third part in a little "trilogy" we made, but if you're going to watch anything of mine, you must watch this.

Parkade Preacher
A man tries desperately to escape an overzealous religious peddler roaming an underground parkade.

This shoot was marred with technical difficulties.  We actually rented a Glidecam, but couldn't figure out how to balance it properly so it ended up looking handheld anyway and just put needless strain on my back and forearm.  Ah well, I guess that's the price you pay for brilliant, revolutionary cinema.

Charlie Change-O: Super-Freako
It's a typical day at work for Jim Henderson -- until street magician/chaos practitioner Charlie Change-O bursts into his office and turns his world upside down.

Featuring me! as Jim.  We wanted to shoot a "Chris Angel: Mindfreak"-style opening but never quite got around to it.  But we still plan to.

Room Tone
A quick in-class assignment to capture...well, room tone.  Yeah, it's kinda lame, but I like it.  Especially the end credits.

John's Jukes
A short documentary we made about a local pinball/arcade store.  Watch if you've ever wanted the history of pinball summarized.

I Am So Goth That I Am Actually Dead

A high school media class project I did when I was 17.  It's part documentary, part offensive absurdity.  We didn't sleep at all during the making of it and clearly got a little carried away.  Sleep deprivation + amateur filmmaking = great art!

Why I Didn't Finish My ISU
An ISU I made when I was 16.  Obviously I was clambering for ideas.  I used to despise it, but looking back on it, it's only half bad.

Can I direct an Alien movie now?

I watched Locked Out ... I think I missed something. Did you forget to upload the whole film or something?

is pretty much the reaction I'm expecting!

You didn't miss anything.  It's just a little Jim Jarmusch like that.

The story's all there, but it requires some extrapolation on the audience's part.  I could give you my interpretation but that kinda defeats the point.  The key is in the structure, I'll say that much.

Watch Special Delivery.  It's much more concise.

I have had this topic bookmarked for a few days. Haven't gotten around to watching these yet. Haven't really been in the right mindset to watch something, been too hyper and stuff when I am on the computer. But I will! I will get to them eventually. I am going to put them on my PSP, maybe that will prompt me to get them watched.

Oh, I started watching Locked Out, but then I got too restless and did something else. I liked the production values. Some nice shots that look like they were dolly and crane shots...I love what those shots do to the look of a film.

Cool!  Despite my gripes against watching movies on mobile devices, it's kinda neat thinking about my own movies being watched on someone's PSP.  (Do you take public transit?  Hopefully some bigwig producer will be looking over your shoulder... )

Some nice shots that look like they were dolly and crane shots...I love what those shots do to the look of a film.

Yeah, I rented a jib arm for my shoot.  Originally I only wanted it for one shot, but since I had it I figured I might as well get as much use out of it as possible.  If I could've afforded to have it longer, I probably would have shot the whole movie with it.

Great job O'Malley!  Loved the way Locked Out was shot, and voice acted. Special Delivery was my favorite, since it reminded me of a script I wrote a few years ago, about a group of guys that receive a strange item containing a bloodthirsty creature within.

But then it's really just a facehugger, maybe!

Special Delivery was my favorite, since it reminded me of a script I wrote a few years ago, about a group of guys that receive a strange item containing a bloodthirsty creature within.

We talked about making it into a series focusing on the two agents and how doing these deliveries is just a day job in their otherwise completely mundane lives.  Sequel material, perhaps?

Clearly, we had no idea where the story was going as we were shooting it.  After wrapping the last exterior shot, we sat down to figure out what the most logical contents of the box should be.  Once it hit us, it was so obvious; I can't believe we didn't realize it sooner!  (We left it hanging in a tree, by the way.)

The case is actually a footlocker my friend's aunt donated after serving in the Canadian Armed Forces.  We converted it into a customized carrying case for my camera and accessories.  It's pretty badass.
