Star Trek is generally at its best when there's action and adventure.  I can't comment on the new flick as yet, but there's endless hours of schnooze inducing TV if that's what you'd prefer.

Gun Machine by Warren Ellis

It's a really fun mystery novel. There's plenty of humorous moments and a really interesting story. My only issue is that the 'conspiracy' was pretty small scale, wrapping the mystery up a little too neatly.

Final Days by Gary Gibson

This one was promising, but ultimately all over the place, and pretty inconsistant overall. I liked it but, it seemed rushed out to hit a deadline, when it should've had some more streamlining.

Currently reading, this behemoth motherfucker;

The Namesake

Had to watch it for a minorities studies class. Pretty good, but it's really by the numbers. Every single story about immigrants in the US is about a generational struggle between children and parents. It never changes.

I dug that flick, but don't have any real desire to watch it again.  The soundtrack however, I listen to incessantly.

The Avengers

Joss Whedon, some is forgiven.  A lot of the gags in the script are at once fun and corny, mainly because the characters often seem to be speaking with the same 'voice'.  Took a little while to get into gear, but once they got past the preditable 'I hate you, no I hate you!' nonsense, it was immensely enjoyable.  The script managed  the myriad characters really well, with everyone getting multiple moments to have their time in the spotlight.  And it was probably the best Hulk committed to film thus far.

The Woman In Black

How they managed to use every single horror movie cliche and still end up with some quite tense scenes, was nothing short of miraculous.  I think Radcliffe may be cursed with his childish face for enternity in the same way Di Caprio is, but this was a pretty cool flick overall.

The Omen (1976)

Had this sitting in my collection and finally got around to watching it. I had tried once before but could only manage half or so before giving up, but was pleasantly surprised to find the film got a lot more interesting than it had been.

I bought it in a three-pack with II and III. I don't know if I care to watch the second, but Sam Niel's in the third, and that alone makes me want to watch it.

Elevator scene in the second is great.

I've never thought the 'mechanical' bit of 'biomechanical' was literal.  They just look like they're part machine - not that they're cyborgs.

The Last Patriot - Brad Thor

Interesting premise about a lost final revelation of Mohammed marred by shitty cliched immature writing and rampant imperialist jingoism.

I thought the promos to that Elementary looked lame as, too.  Only thing that looked vaguely interesting was Sickboy.  Haven't bothered.  Mind you haven't watched the UK Holmes thing either.

The First Lady watched all three series of Downton Abbey last week and I got sucked in.  Soap opera, but decent soap opera nonetheless.

Captain America - Not as good as the Iron Man flicks, but as decent as Thor.  Good fun.

Hurt Locker - Stumbled across it on telly last night.  Sat up to after midnight watching it with ads.  I never watch movies with ads.

Mallrats - Been a very long time since I watched this.  Lacks a lot of the maturity of Clerks and goes more goofy.  Probably Kev's weakest flick (Jersey Girl aside), but still fun.

Didn't they splice frog DNA into the dinosaurs?  There's your movie science explanation for no feathers.

Unlike most I thought JP3 was more fun than Lost World - especially all that San Diego King Kong bullshit.  Grant and Malcolm back together would be pretty sweet.

The Hobbit - Ahh, twas good to be back in Middle Earth.  Took a little while to get into gear, but when it did - awesome, awesome stuff.

I do.

 Mr Green returns

If I had to guess it would be that Shaw got ebola like her dad did. She survived, unlike her dad, but was left infertile.

Never heard of it.

And what an odd grouping of genres.
