Minority Report (2002)

A brilliant film that still holds up to this day. Fantastic pacing, performances, a great story and awesome visuals.

Oblivion (2013)

Loved it. Hell, almost as much as Minority Report! Yes, it's derivative, but it's so sincere in it's storytelling that I don't care. It's as heavy a sci-fi film as we'll ever get from a major studio with a huge budget behind it. It's also the most visually striking movie since Prometheus. A must Blu Ray purchase for me.

Best moment has to be when
Spoiler:
the drone is about to kill the survivors, only for it to be shot from behind. You naturally expect the reveal to be Tom Cruise saving them, but instead it's Jaime Lannister!

Ronin (1998)

An action classic. Robert De Niro and Jean Reno play off each other superbly, their friendship feels genuine. Sean Bean Lives/10.

John Carter (2012)

Wasn't quite in love with this as I was on my first viewing. I think mostly to do with Carter himself not getting a chance to be very humorous. But otherwise I still enjoy the hell out of this film. I hope Andrew Stanton can recover from the unwarranted character assassination he got as a result of the film and continue pumping out awesome pulpy adventure films.

If I adjust the settings on my TV, would it possibly mimic the experience?

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)

I did like this. It was great to be back in Middle Earth, with Gandalf, exploring new and familiar places. I liked the jokiness of it, it's pretty natural considering this group of characters are all familiar with each other as opposed to the Fellowship who where initially distrusting of each other.

I'm not sure about the whole 48FPS controversy, as I missed this in theatres and it looks superb on Blu Ray.

However the one problem that really took me out of the film was, how did a lot of the CGI look less tangible than it did in the LOTR trilogy? Azgor The Defiler looked totally weightless, especially when the physical Orcs looked fantastic. Not sure why he wasn't a guy in a suit either.

Either way, fun times where had. Especially after three years of Game of Thrones, the levity was a welcome change of pace.

Well you don't exactly need to be Trevor Slattery to play Parker.

 Parker (2013)

I nearly rage quit this film several times early on, when they tried to make Parker a sympathetic family man, gave him a father figure, made Claire some random skank, but I persevered.

Statham plays the character really well, very much how I envision him when reading the books, except British. The film is at it's best when it's Parker scheming, improvising, looting, being what a Parker film should be. Once it moves to JLo as Leslie, the whole thing becomes a total wet fart.

The movie as a whole is unimaginative, it tries to feel like a big Ocean's film, with the heist movie score and all, when it should be a small hard boiled film noir, like say Joe Carnahan's Narc.

I will give props to the fight scene between Statham and Daniel Bernhardt, it starts pretty randomly (I think some of Bernhardt's scenes must've been deleted because he just appears out of nowhere), but quickly escalates to Peter Griffin vs. Giant Chicken levels of ridiculous, with both guys surviving wounds that would kill a non action star.

All in all, huge let down.

No, I haven't. But I'd probably check him out more if I'm bored at an airport.

Antiviral (2012)

Meh. Feels like it was made by a film student with his head disappeared really far up his own ass, imitating Cronenberg, rather than something the seed of Cronenberg would make. Then again, Cosmopolis felt like it was made by a film student with his head up his own ass imitating Cronenberg too.

Movie 43 (2013)

I laughed.... only when Terrence Howard spoke.

Gun Machine by Warren Ellis

It's a really fun mystery novel. There's plenty of humorous moments and a really interesting story. My only issue is that the 'conspiracy' was pretty small scale, wrapping the mystery up a little too neatly.

Final Days by Gary Gibson

This one was promising, but ultimately all over the place, and pretty inconsistant overall. I liked it but, it seemed rushed out to hit a deadline, when it should've had some more streamlining.

Currently reading, this behemoth motherfucker;

 Iron Man (2008)

Still holds up. It's easily the best comic book origin movie alongside Superman, thanks to how Favs and RDJ turn it on it's ear. I'd really gotten unused to Terrence Howard as Rhodey, he's ok, but doesn't feel like the character like Cheadle does.

I know people rag on Obi as a somewhat weak and predictable villain, but having done a bit of acting and in one role having to play a character similar to Obie, man Bridges just owns it. A completely perfect blend of menace and charm.

The Incredible Hulk (2008)

I still like this. It's fun, I like the small touches with the yoga and the heart rate watch. Liv Tyler was great, I hope they bring her back as Betty, because I think she'd have great chemistry with Ruffalo.

Iron Man 3 (2013)

Easily my favourite MCU film. It's absolutely a Shane Black film. Dat twist!

Alex Cross (2012)

Awful. Matthew Fox however, awesome!

The Man with the Iron Fists (2012)

RZA should become the action movie Morgan Freeman of narration. "These mother****ers had a gattling gun and more bullets than China had rice!".

While Russell Crowe is the far and away show stealer, the villain Byron Mann put in a good showing. He was hilarious in his douchiness.

The Blues Brothers (1980)

Haven't watched this since the 90's! Safe to say it's still a classic.

 Rise of the Guardians (2012)

Easily one of my favourite animated films ever. Full of heart and non stop fun.

Last Man Standing (1996)

My second favourite Walter Hill joint behind Extreme Prejudice. No, it's not a patch on A Fistfull of Dollars (Or presumably Yojimbo), but it's just manly (Including being edited in a way where it looks like Bruce Willis was holding dual Colt .45's while having sex), it looks like it was filmed in a barrel of bourbon and it's bloody as hell.

A Good Day to Die Hard (2013)

It's possibly the best awfully hilarious movie since The Room.

Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

A really heartfelt effort by David O. Russell. Amazing performances all around, especially De Niro and Chris Tucker. Probably my only complaint would be Jennifer Lawrence is a little too young to play her character, but she does an amazing job too.
