Don't know if these have been posted before, they've been around a few days now. They are NOT mine and I have no idea where they came from, but I do know they are real because I've seen the film. BEWARE major spoilers, see at your own risk:

Should probably change the title to something more vague. Like 'Pics of SPOILER' or something.

Indeed. The big question is, what do we make of this thing? I heard some people suggested it was some sort of proto-Alien, a precursor to what was encountered in Alien and subsequent films, but I don't really buy that given the fact that both the LV-223 and LV-426 ships are very old. If you ask me, it's simply a modern Alien with inherited characteristics of its Space Jockey/Engineer host. What do you think? EDIT: Then again, I just realized that, of course, it didn't come from an egg or facehugger, but from the mutated squid thing that Shaw gave "birth" to. Which in turn originated from the black oil through Holloway's, erm, DNA. Seems to suggest that the Aliens were created by the Engineers through the black oil, which is clearly some sort of generatio spontanum agent. Then this "proto-Alien" (including the big bodyhugger) is either a similar creature created through similar means, or just that - a proto-Alien after all, which will later develop into something more familiar with eggs, facehuggers and whatnot. On a side note, am I the only one who got a huge X-Files vibe from the black oil?

If they make another film, I imagine they'll delve deeper into the creature's evolution. There's still a lot to explain. I also want to know more about the oversized worm.

Starting with why they had acid for blood! Right now the obvious explanation seems to be their shared ancestry with the Aliens through the Engineers (yes, I'm calling SJ's Engineers from now on; the new name sounds less silly) and their black oil. Frankly, I also got the impression that, like the smaller worms, they were just random evolutionary byproducts of the black liquid. A poster on IMDb suggested that the worms were spawned from the black liquid after the Prometheus crew had disturbed it and were evolving at an unusually fast rate (like in the David Duchovny/Ivan Reitman film Evolution)'. This would fit with the Aliens' unusually rapid life cycle, again proving a common origin.

Aren't the Prometheus aliens a 'newer' variety that Alien's Aliens? The Engineers got dated to being 2000 years old. I don't think it's mentioned that they've fossilised (or their suits had - obviously the one they first found wasn't fossilised!) but I always had the impression that the SJ from Alien was much older. Also, Prometheus' aliens are far more lethal in a much more mercurial way, and appear to have been designed to wipe out humanity, apparently. Alien Aliens tend to have a much more basic lifecycle that's pretty much nailed down. On a side note, am I the only one who got a huge X-Files vibe from the black oil?

That is why I had a self imposed exile until I could see Prometheus in the cinema.
Still, one of the best part of the movie

The Engineers got dated to being 2000 years old. I don't think it's mentioned that they've fossilised (or their suits had - obviously the one they first found wasn't fossilised!) but I always had the impression that the SJ from Alien was much older. I don't think Dallas had any clue when he said the SJ was "fossilized". He was no biologist of any sorts. For all we know it was only mummified. Of course, there's also some issue here with the SJ's skull being semi-retconned into the Engineer's helmet. Obviously a helmet wouldn't fossilize, although it could deteriorate and wear to look like it has. We don't know what the hell it's made of - maybe it can fossilize. Also, Prometheus' aliens are far more lethal in a much more mercurial way, and appear to have been designed to wipe out humanity, apparently. Alien Aliens tend to have a much more basic lifecycle that's pretty much nailed down. I take it you're referring to the worm things? Because I'm not sure they have any direct relation to the Xenomorphs (yes, I apologize for using that term, but it gets a bit tricky with multiple breeds of unnamed aliens in the mix) other than also having acid blood (which doesn't say a terrible lot). As for how old or new the Prometheus Xeno is, I'm not sure. I'm not even sure if the creature in the end is even a distinct species like the Xenomorphs, given the fact that it came from an Engineer which was body-hugged by the mutated descendant of Shaw, who was impregnated by Holloway's black oil-infected seed. On first glance, it comes across as some sort of random mutation, not a well-defined species like what was found on LV-426. Of course, we can't disregard the LV-223 Alien's highly similar appearance - the "shoulder pads", the skin, the lack of eyes, the long head (dare I say its flattened shape looks like a Queen's head?) and even what looks like half-formed secondary jaws. That can't be coincidence. In any case, I think it's likely that the LV-426 Aliens also originate from the black oil. Then again, that planet's Derelict had no oil ampuls like on LV-223 (which may also say very little). Good to see you back, Dutch!
Yes, same to you! I think I'll stick around this time.

I don't think Dallas had any clue when he said the SJ was "fossilized". He was no biologist of any sorts. For all we know it was only mummified. But we don't get any similar dialogue for Prometheus - in face we're shown that there's no mummification or petrification process going on even with the Engineers' biology. And Dallas was basing his assumption not just on the Jockey suit, but on the huge gaping wound in the torso. I'm referring to everything. The worm things are, as far as I can see, just another part of the Black Oil lifecycle - a biological form it uses when a host isn't apparent. I'm not too sure about acid blood. It corrodes through the helmet, but then turns Fifield into a monster rather than doing what acid blood does to Drake in Aliens. And what happens to Holloway looks a lot like the early stages of what happens to Fifield. As for how old or new the Prometheus Xeno is, I'm not sure. The Engineers bought it when their experiment backfired 2000 years ago. They clearly knew what they were doing, as they'd made a mural of what looks very much like our Alien Alien to decorate their lab. My own view, which is no doubt completely wrong, is that the Engineers come across our Alien Alien before that. The Jockey ship on LV-426 is carrying a specimen of the Alien species for analysis when it comes a cropper. The Engineers finally get a specimen and start weaponising it - turning it into something far more mercurial and deadly - and it all backfires on LV-223. Thus what Shaw and her crew find on LV-223 is a genetically engineered version of the Alien from LV-426, vastly more advanced. The Alien series deals with the original species, and Prometheus deals with it once the Engineers start tinkering around with it.

And what happens to Holloway looks a lot like the early stages of what happens to Fifield. Well I was under the impression that the acid blood didn't actually do that to Fifield. I thought that the acid just melted his helmet to his face, killing him, and then he came into contact with the black goo which then did something to him.
