What if people saw the Theatrical Cut before the Director's Cut? (Grammar Nazi strikes again!)

Seriously, I think that most of what was edited out was more fighting between Shaw and the Engineer. If that's it, I'm not going to be wowed too much unless the other, shorter additions are awesome.

The longer version is supposed to be 2 hours 27 minutes. I think we'll get a lot more than the Shaw / Engineer scrap.

Although, whether that will make it better....

Hey wiseguy what makes you think the "Shaw vs Engineer" battle is the only thing restored?
I didn't think nor say that it would be the only thing. From what I had read about it, there was quite a bit of that missing 20 minutes about Shaw's skirmish with the Engineer.

that battle was most likely 2 minutes
But what if it wasn't? What if it were a lot longer than that? Think about it: if you were Shaw, and you were the only thing standing in the way of the Engineer killing off everyone you know and love, would you dedicate only a few minutes of your life to stopping him, or would drag it out even longer, just to show the guy how you really feel about it and so that the people of Earth in 2012 would appreciate the sacrifice you made for them?

there is like 18 minutes of scenes that are still unknown to us.

I'm sure we will get a longer beginning to the movie based on the screens shown of deleted scenes.

It might be cool if we see some kind of selection process where they choose which Engineer should be sacrificed.

Maybe they were just a bunch of college frat boys on a road trip and one of them lost a bet.

"Damn, this shot of Jagermeister looks freakin' trippy. Must still be feeling those shrooms. OKAY LET'S DO THIS!!"

"Haha, dude, I'm totally flying my parents' spaceship sideways. Whoa, there goes Mike! Wait...you gave him what? Let me see that bottle...OH SHIT."

Let's list the deleted scenes we know about, just because we have no lives.

-The Elders (likely to not be in the extended, if they intent to rework the look for sequels)
-David enters Weyland's dream (We're on a boat!)
-Extended Engineer/Shaw battle

I read the Alien Harvest script again today, you're damn right I have no life!

As far as deleted scenes we know about I don't know of any scenes other than what has already been mentioned.  I'm hoping for scenes that develop the characters more.  It's a shame that a movie like The Avengers is nearly 20 minutes longer than Prometheus.

I wonder if any of the deleted scenes have anything in common with the alleged "leaked second draft" script that's floating around the net. Part of me hopes so, but another part of me doesn't as that "script" reads like a totally different movie.

Hopefully I'll learn to enjoy Prometheus a bit more once the extended cut comes put on Blu Ray. I really liked the film despite having some mixed feelings about it overall.

Don't think this was ever filmed.

The extended Cut of Prometheus will have the same 144 minute length as The Avengers.

Thats a good thing with 20 extra minutes of scenes, that Fox will add to Prometheus DVD/Blue-Ray release.

I'm well aware of the supposed expanded time for Prometheus on Blu-ray.  I was referring to the theatrical cut.  When I see a movie on opening night I expect to see a finished product.  Ridley has stated that the theatrical cut is his directors cut/finished product.  I'm pointing out that it's nearly 20 minutes less than The Avengers.  I think Prometheus needed to be another 40 minutes at least to flesh out the characters and smooth things over.

Also The Avengers is 143 minutes long and Ridley has stated we may see 20-30 minutes of deleted scenes for the Prometheus Blu-ray but who knows how much of that will just be deleted scenes available from the menu rather than actually inserted into the full film.

I don't understand why running times such as http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0172495/ , http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0765429/ and http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0320661/ are allowed, but a science fiction movie has to be 'about two hours.'  Facepalm (Picard)

If you're reading that answer and you remain unclear whether there's going to be an actual extended cut on the disc, then, er, we're with you there.

That's basically Ridley Scott in every interview he ever does. I know there's an interview with him 1 on 1 in the laserdisc archives and when I watched it I was trying to imagine the guy interviewing him. I don't think Ridley gave him a direct answer on anything. I know I've seen some post-screening Q&A where he either answers oddly or beats around the bush.

Also, I'm in agreement on Ash being the only dated effect in Alien. I don't think the chestburster is really comical, but when I show people Alien for the first time there's normally a chuckle when the shot cuts from the shit prosthetic to Ian Holm's face on the table. Dirty shame.

As far as 20 more minutes of Prometheus I just feel like it's going to be 20 more minutes of more unanswered questions.
