I've got my Quiet Eye on you...

Taken from The Nexus News: According to our insider information: Prometheus 2 is under works, and it is planned for a 2014/2015 release (Note that this is only an estimation and not the final date – more accurate date will be announced after the planning stage of the film is complete). The filming is hoped to start this year (if the desired conditions are met). Currently they are at the Planning stage, where they lay out the entire plan on how to film the movie in the proper order and how to achieve some of the special effects described in both the scripts (currently in progress) and the concept arts. Later this year there would be production videos showing the progress that they made thus far, and how they didn’t waste any time. Their ideas are very solid, and answer several questions that were asked in the first movie. Although several questions will answered throughout Prometheus 2, the story would be based on two main plot lines that were left off from the last movie. The first and most important is where will Dr. Shaw and David go, and what will they find there. It has been speculated that Elder Engineers that were cut from the last movie will play a huge role in the sequel. They were probably cut from the main movie for the same reason. Because it was thought that perhaps they need to be reworked, and represented in a whole different way. The release date for the movie is still not yet set, but due to the heavy visual arts involved the time for the release is expected to be sometime in 2014 or 2015 (Date might change depending on the decisions made in the planning stage). At this point nothing is a sure fact. However there is one thing for sure. Although Prometheus 2 is set to answer some of the questions asked in the first movie, there sure will be more questions created that are going to be left for the third and final installment of the series Prometheus 3. Update: Our insider confirmed “Again” that a Prometheus 2 is in development. It was reported to us that the release date was a desired estimate, and in worse case the movie might even take up to 2017. It all depends on the various elements of film making. Same situation has happened with the first movie ( Prometheus), as it was planned mainly to be released much earlier. Do notice that release dates change very frequently, and we take no responsibility for what we are told on that, since even those that are part of the planning team are changing the estimate as the plan progresses. The only fact thus far is that a Prometheus 2 is in development and is currently being planned. http://thenexusnews.com/prometheus-2-in-development/852676/

I hope they introduce some really cool characters, who we'll like more... ... so they can be unceremoniously killed off at the beginning of Prometheus³.

Nobody has been unceremoniously killed off before in an Alien film, so I don't see them doing that in any of the Prometheus films.
(If anyone wants to cry about Alien³, let me remind them of the ceremony that took place in the Furnace.)

Quite. Come to think of it, I don't recollect anybody crying about an Alien film ever.

What about AvP:R?
Hey, we were talking about Alien film. ...emphasis, of course, on the word film. And as for the news, I guess it will be another "Final Release Date: 2022". (So that there is at least some significance to the date.) But hey, I don't really mind. I just hope that "The Prometheuses" ( ) will be worth it AND that it won't spoil the stuff set up in Prometheus. (I can already see the dozens of people, who are now complaining about Prometheus, yelling: "Noo! It was such a nice movie, after all, and look what they did!") Seriously though, from personal point of view, I am not really happy at the perspective of the story being just the continuation of Shaw's and David's mad journey to the end of space. The worst possibility (which, fortunately, I know Scott won't do) would be starting the story with that the Engineer ship with S+D has a malfunction, they are ejected in an escape pod back to LV-233 and have to fight the Newalien. The best case would be S+D just arriving in front of the court of the Elders, and the Elders telling them: "Yousa cannot bees here. Wesa give yousa una bongo. Now, go..."

Somehow I get the impression that their intention is to shoot the sequels back-to-back, a la The Matrix trilogy or Pirates of the Caribbean, or the proposed Scott/Cameron Alien 5 way back when (most likely reusing elements from those scripts, given the ending to Prometheus). Of course, the studio would only go for that if the box office warrants it, and while Prometheus has done decent business, I don't think it's enough to commission two sequels right off the bat.
Instead, I think we're more likely to see another filmmaker take on a Prometheus sequel 3-5 years down the line, with Scott serving as executive producer.

Now I have to rewrite David out of my draft. I was going to have him/it translate for the Engineers. Shit.

Sorry I was away this weekend. I don't have an actual source since I was referring to friends and people online making the claims about his refusal to do a sequel. I never believed it to be true.

If The Weyland Files are to be believed, Peter Weyland and David are aware of the transmission on LV-426, which is a moon in the same system as LV-223. Also, thanks to ECIU, Weyland also knows that there might be danger. So it appears that the Derelict is on LV-426 during the events of Prometheus, and it is transmitting the warning that the Nostromo comes across so many years later.
