Hounds based on skulls in P2
« on: July 05, 2012, 12:40:09 PM »

I just watched Predator 2, and looking at a picture of the Predator hounds from Predators it just hit me that their facial features are very similar to one of the skulls in the trophy room in P2. I'm talking about the broad, ridged one right of the Alien skull (sorry, no pictures ATM). Anyone else catch this?

I'm convinced.

Especially given you'd have to break those tusks and horns off for OHS' sake.

The "other" one looks like the thing they killed that was chasing Topher.

And, the "dog" did take several head shots before being killed.

@Hieronymous - yes, that's the one. Does look a bit bigger than the hounds, but it could be a related species of larger size. The right one definitely bears some resemblance to the River Ghost. While the hound is probably intentional, I think the River Ghost's similarity is coincidence.

The hound has its eyes forward of the downward-curving tusks; the tusked skull has the tusks forward of the eyes.  Also, from what I can remember, the River Ghost didn't have eyes.

The Aliens as we know and l;love them do not have eyes either, yet that pecker headed skull has semi-sockets.

Thus, just cause you got holes don't mean you got eyes, or something. And, speaking as a hunter. If you bag something with tusks, you keep the trophy/skull/antlers/et al in tact.

Exactly true, CM. You have holes for blood vessels and ligaments, the fenestrations on the xenomorph skull are jaw muscle attachment points, equivalent to our temple regions. I wish we could have seen a living specimen of the giant, mandibled dinosaur thing! That had four apparent eye sockets. It's easy enough to identify eye sockets, as they tend to grow around the eyes, giving the hole a definite round shape. Thus, it's easy to see where the eyes are on a a T. rex, even with the abundance of fenestrae. Cetaceans are a whole other matter, however!
