I don't do the whole msn thing - I spend too much time online as it is - but if you're still getting into the whole industrial kick, I strongly advise you to check out the following bands ASAP: Skinny Puppy - nin ripped them off something cronic in the early days. Meat Beat Manifesto - done a bunch of remixes for nin, practically invented drum n' bass and breakbeat too Front Line Assembly Sheep on Drugs (though sinisterbumblebee will strongly disagree with me here, I'm sure Deezelboy would back me up!) Minitry Prick (used to be in a band with reznor - pre NIN. His first album is truely fantastic) There are loads more that are worth checking out, but these are a good grounding. Oh, and FYI, the actual genre title is post-industrial - named in the wake of the collapse of the indie label 'Industrial Records' in the late '80's - but <michael caine>Not a lot of people know that</michael caine> Mods: Might I suggest that this thread moves over to the music board as a general thread for industrial waffle?

lol whatever, early industrials funny, like gary numan and joy division. Um, no... Gary Numan is New Wave and Joy Division is Post-Punk. If you people listen to Skinny Puppy, Nine Inch Nails, and the lot, you probably couldn't handle first generation industrial music. Listen to these, then get back to me: Throbbing Gristle:- DOA: The Third and Final Report of Throbbing Gristle- Heathen Earth- Throbbing Gristle's Greatest Hits: Entertainment Through PainMonte Cazazza:- The Worst of Monte CazazzaSPK:- Leichenschrei- Auto da Fe- Information OverloadNon:- Physical Evidence- Blood & Flame- In the Shadow of the Sword- God & Beast- Receive the Flame- Children of the Black SunEinst?rzende Neubauten:- Kollaps- Zeichnungen des Patienten O.T.- 80-83 Strategien gegen Architekturen- Halber Mensch- F?nf auf der Nach oben Offenen Richterskala- Haus Der L?geH?r mit schmerzen:

The only one of the bands you've listed that I ever tried to get into was TG, and they weren't really my thing at all - but that was when I was just into... well, Skuppy and NIN. After discovering Japanese noise-core, Whitehouse, etc, I think I'm probably ready for real industrial. Unforunately, the term 'industrial' is now generally thought to describe NIN and the like - which, I'm guessing is the stuff that's likely to be talked about here.

Like Nurse With Wound founding member Steven Stapleton, I hate lumping them in with the industrial crowd. However, with the exception of their collaboration with Whitehouse on The 150 Murderous Passions, Stapleton did admit to making Thunder Perfect Mind with all intents and purposes of it being a "real" industrial album, based on the Futurist principles laid out by Luigi Russolo in his Art of Noises manifesto and not of the same ilk created by Genesis P-Orridge.
