I really love that place; here's my account on the English one, I also have one on the Dutch Wikipedia. Does anyone else frequent the Wikipedia?

Honestly, I don't trust Wikipedia as a source of information. Since anybody can contribute and you do not know the reliability of the contributors or how facts are checked, I simply do not trust it as a source of information.
Plus, I find it annoying when I read a student's paper and all they have done throughout the entire 10 or so pages is cite wikipedia.

I find Wikipedia to be a great resource if you want a quick and simple overview on a subject. But as Fitzley said I wouldn't trust it as being reliable. It's a good starting point.

I agree. I had to correct part of an article concerning Weyland Yutani. Thankfully, no one had gone back and "recorrected" it to the "accepted" origin of the Company's name.

I stopped taking Wikipedia seriously when they claimed as a fact that Bishop II was a droid.

Well, "they" didn't; some chucklehead who had written that did. But, to punctuate fitzley's point, anyone can "contribute" to the Wikipedia. As soon as I had seen the slogan, "Welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit." [emphasis mine], I knew that it would be less-than-reliable. Like I had said before, I had to re-edit it to give the straight dope on the origin of the Company's name.

He is a bit lefty, well; A LOT lefty actually, but hey; he`s my cousin...

Honestly, I don't trust Wikipedia as a source of information. Since anybody can contribute and you do not know the reliability of the contributors or how facts are checked, I simply do not trust it as a source of information. I saw a news report on the BBC news website a few months ago that said, on average, Wiki was more factually accurate than Encyclopedia Britannica - Obviously it'll have errors, but the whole point of an open source system like wiki is that if you find errors, you can correct them. I love the place. I usually try and cross-reference, but in general it's really useful. You can also report any questionable content, and it'll state at the top of the page that it's validity has been called into question.

Also, 'official' sites aren't fully reliable, either. Errors can be everywhere.

Heh, I actually made my first ever editing in Wikipedia just a minute ago. I posted the full writing credits for Alien3, before my generous donation they only had Dan O`Bannon and Ronald Shusett listed... Sorry to dig up a rotting corpse of a dead thread, but I felt like sharing this with you* and I didn`t want to start a new thread. * And I was bored.
