A derelict post from a vanished civillisation

While haunting the DVD racks in my town"s Circuit City, I discovered several copies of the 20th Anniversary DVD of Alien. I"m not sure if it was re-released in other countries, but you may be on the lookout for it.

By owning it, you shall be rewarded with:

- A better (IMHO) audio commentary by director Ridley Scott
- Isolated musical score on a separate audio channel
- Alternate music and production sound track (you can hear what the actors are really saying)
- Deleted scenes (different outtakes than in the Quadrilogy)
- Artwork and photo galleries
- Outtakes
- Web links
- Cooler Easter eggs (alien life cycle, character bios, etc.)

It"s just the original DVD.  The commentary is good, but he didn"t follow up on what he was going to say about those birds in the water on the table or w/e.  I think he was going to show them before the ship blew up.  The deleted scenes are the same...what"s different about them?

The Alien 3 DVD has "The Making of Alien 3".  I have it on VHS, but it"d last longer on DVD.

They are different takes. Watch the "Council of War" scene, where they gathered in the mess to discuss how to deal with the alien, from both discs back to back.

Question: Does it have a full set of storyboards?

It does? It"s been a while since I"ve watched my copy. Storyboards or no, I"m still preaching that every die-hard Alien fan should own this along with the Quad edition.

I rented this a few times prior to the Quadrilogy"s release solely for the special features included.  Where else can you find such detailed character bios?  (Well, aside from SM"s timeline, that is Roll Eyes.)  In the months since, I had been meaning to buy it -- and while over at a friend"s place one day, I noticed it on a shelf with his other DVDs.  Since he too had bought the Quadrilogy, I figured I"d ask if I could borrow his copy of the 20th anniversary edition, knowing full well that he"d probably just give it to me.  My plan worked Grin.

The alien dvd I own besides  the Quadrilogy one all has (excluding interactive menus and scene choices, obviously);

  • Theatrical Trailer
  • Removed scenes
  • Director"s comments
  • Bloopers
  • Artwork & photogallery
  • Original story boards
  • Original music
  • Alternative music track

Oops, should have clarified more, I meant I own it making me a die-hard fan.. Tongue

Anyway, I don"t know if it contains a full-set of Storyboards, If I remember correctly, they just contain key-scene storyboards.  Huh

Different takes or not, they"re the same.  There are 2 seperate takes of that scene in the Quadrilogy as well.

Got that DVD to. The easter eggs are great! I love Ash"s lifecycle analysis. The alternate score is good to, its better than the one used in the film IMO.

Does the alternate score have dialogue?  Or is it just the alternate isolated score?

The one Maledoro listed has been widely available for at least 4 years.  The one Rusty listed with Bloopers sounds different though.

I think he changed Outtakes to Bloopers for some reason.

At the risk of being a right wanker, does anybody know which key scenes are storyboarded?

The Quad version goes all the way up to the facehugger coming off Kane, then skips to the (alternate) ending.  If the 20th Anniversary edition contained scenes other than that, well, I"d buy that for a dollar.
