I actually just got the 20th Anniversary DVD and am in the process of watching the alternate music/production audio thing.  It's darn interesting but for nerds only.   Clap

Dance Happy to be a 20th Anniversary nerd.  Dance

Goldsmith's score for the "acid leak" and "Dallas in the ducts" are much better than the re-used Freud cues used in the film IMO. I also like the alternate opening and credits as well, but I'd really miss the cues that are used in the film. The change in tone from Goldsmith's score to Hanson's romantic when the alien is blown out of the air lock nicely underlines the fact that this time the Alien is gone.

I didn't notice anything different about the opening music at all.

It's on the original score track. I just re read you're original post, you said you were watching the  alternate music/production audio. My mistake. But please try the original score, it's the third of the four audio tracks on my disc.

The title track used in the film is better than the more romantic piece Goldsmith originally scored (that ended up on the soundtrack LP).

Aliens (Vasquez - lots of headshots) and Alien : Resurrection (Johner - single).

Hicks also offed two Aliens with headshots. One in the APC when they where getting away and the other in the elevator at the end.

Anywhere I can...download this?  I don't think I've heard his original intent.

I prefer Goldsmith's original opening, but I'm just a big softie.   Wink

The original is a fantastic peice, but the one used in the film suits the images better.

Maybe try Googling 'Alien main title.mp3'.  There have been certain eastern European sites that have had this stuff in the past.

I kept trying to find the music from all the films on Limewire, but I only managed to get, the AvP theme, the Predator theme and 'Fanfare for the common Mercinary'.

While haunting the DVD racks in my town"s Circuit City, I discovered several copies of the 20th Anniversary DVD of Alien. I"m not sure if it was re-released in other countries, but you may be on the lookout for it.

By owning it, you shall be rewarded with:

 - A better (IMHO) audio commentary by director Ridley Scott
 - Isolated musical score on a separate audio channel
 - Alternate music and production sound track (you can hear what the actors are really saying)
 - Deleted scenes (different outtakes than in the Quadrilogy)
 - Artwork and photo galleries
 - Outtakes
 - Web links
 - Cooler Easter eggs (alien life cycle, character bios, etc.)

"

This was the first DVD that I ever bought. I love the extras on this one. The scene where the crew listen to the alien transmission is great, much better than the lame version included in the Alien director's cut.

Agreed. The sound for the transmission is MUCH, MUCH more creepy than the re-done Director's Cut version. Also, the Alien Lair scene on that DVD is about twice as long and better edited, IMO. It's much more disturbing in every way.

The 20th Anniversary DVD is a must-have for fans. I boasts plenty of material left out of the Quad that's really worth it. I love the Isolated Alternate score. Not only unused Goldsmith music cues, but also production sound where you can hear original versions of lines before looping (a few moments where you can tell they changed a line for clarification of plot), alternate takes, etc. You can even hear  Jones growling and hissing at Ripley before she puts him into the Cryo-tube (you can see him clawing at her in the movie, as well). Scott's commentary is good as well, more in-depth and stuff.

I don't understand why the changed that sound, the original was a lot more creepy as you said.

Absolutely!
