Did they actually shoot any real footage on this film or was it all behind the scenes shots of stunt suits?

Should it make any difference?

Intersteing story - the shot of the Alien getting blown out of the airlock in Alien was a test shot, pure behind-the-scenes footage if you will.  Scott used it because it was the best shot they took of it (apparently it was rather complex to do). 

So even the test footage in Alien is good enough to get cinematic treatement...
