1) Why didn't the Alien attack Ripley at the end of Alien on the escape pod until she started pissing it off with steam? I don't get it. Was it dying? It was obviously not in a hurry. A "perfect organism" doesn't die in 12 hours. I think its hogwash to think that. It was packed in there pretty tight too. It had good instinct on knowing where to be at the right time. Next time you watch that scene, look at the tail moving around while he's wedged in there. It adds a snakelike mystery to the look of it. 2) Why did it totally ignore the cat? Probably an irrelevant question, but I just wondered. You have to remember that thin alien was new to life and very intelligent. He probably was curious about the cat and what it was. Everything had to be new to this creature like a child. If you notice the box is knocked over when Ripley comes back. I think the alien was knocking it around and gave up after a short time to go hide in the shuttle. 3) What exactly was that giant skeleton in the Alien ship? ) Are the AVP films actually canon? And are they worth watching as prequels to the Alien franchise? AVP films are fun to watch but not serious story going on. 5) Do I buy Alien 3? I've heard it's not very good... Make sure you get the director's cut. Its much better. Thanks a lot guys. [/quote]

I'm new to this forum but Alien and Aliens are two movies i was both fascinated and terrified with as a child. Alien was out before i was born but i saw it on TV years later when i was able to stay up late. Aliens was one of the first VHS movies i ever rented, much to my mothers disgust when she payed for the rental. I love the movie Aliens, i cant even tell you how many times i have seen it.( but my guess is like 20, seriously!!) The Blu-ray installment of the series is excellent. But like others have mentioned in this thread, you have to watch it more than once to apprieciate whats going on. As for Alien 3, i have more memories of playing it on my old Sega Genesis than watching it. The one and only thing i never ever understood is that when the Reactor exploded on LV426 there is no way it destroyed the derelict ship. And why did they not detect the same signal the Nostromo did 57 years previously. Hmmmm? makes my Sci Fi heart ache LoL. Just my thoughts

Personally I don't buy that the alien was dying. It's not logical. It's death would leave the nest unprotected without the egg/eggs (Brett and maybe Dallas too) reaching maturity, procreating, and the new alien being able to take over reproductive duties.

Why would they worry about leaving the Eggs unprotected? They want curious organisms to wander in and take a gander, just like Kane did on the Derelict. The one and only thing i never ever understood is that when the Reactor exploded on LV426 there is no way it destroyed the derelict ship. And why did they not detect the same signal the Nostromo did 57 years previously. Hmmmm?
If you look at the Derelict in Aliens, it's received a substantial amount of damage since it was seen in Alien, presumably knocking out the beacon - hence no transmission. The colonists, and the survey prior to colonisation, weren't able to find the colony. If Burke kept the coordinates to himself, presumably it would still be quite difficult to find post- Aliens.

Alien3 and Resurrection would have us believe the Derelict was destroyed when the AP went kablam. The Resurrection novel flat out says this is the case.
Either way, I can't imagine Ripley leaving without making sure it was gone.

Good observation, i forgot there was a new oxygen atmosphere with rain pounding down on it. Looks like they dont make derelict space craft like they use to.

Alien3 and Resurrection would have us believe the Derelict was destroyed when the AP went kablam. The Resurrection novel flat out says this is the case. Doesn't make much sense, though. I mean, maybe if the much closer dropship had been destroyed by the AP going up that'd give an indication that the Derelict nobody at the colony had noticed for 20 odd years might have been touched by the explosion, but that didn't happen. Either way, I can't imagine Ripley leaving without making sure it was gone.
Well, it's difficult to imagine her going into hypersleep without thoroughly checking the ship for stowaways, given her poor luck in that regard. But she either didn't find anything or didn't bother - either way it was fair game to plant an Egg on board for the next film. With nuking the Derelict from orbit, I guess that would come down to whether Hicks was up to the job, and whether they could locate the Derelict. Maybe Ripley just thought that with Bishop and Hicks to back her up on her return, it would be a no-brainer from the USCM to send a ship to find and destroy the Derelict? After all, now there's nobody alive on LV426 there's not any risk of another outbreak.
