2.8km down, living in 60°C without light or oxygen, surviving on a diet of uranium and synthesising all its own amino acids, Candidatus Desulforudis audaxviator thrives alone, detached from any ecosystem. It's still made of CHON. It uses heat from uranium decay, it doesn't actually eat uranium. This is a highly unusual organism, but it's not a paradigm-smasher.
