T2 is pretty cheesy over-all. The Terminator not killing, 'Bad to the Bone' and other horribly dated and irritating pop music, lame catch-phrases, etc. I am not saying it's a bad movie, but I have noticed my enjoyment of it has gone down quite a bit from when I was 12.

The Terminator not killing isn't cheesy when it's balanced by the T-1000's perpetual carnage. It's not like Arnold ran around in a pink cape singing show-tunes. His lack of violence obviously goes towards the movie having more than just face value with the messages of a robot learning the value of life, being a better father figure to John, etc. If the robot isn't a mindless killer, than why are people?

I don't really find the Bad to the Bone segment to be cheesy, I still think it's a badass moment.

What other pop music are you talking about? The only other time when music's playing I think is when John and his ginger friend are riding the dirt bike around LA playing some rock music.

The cheesy catch phrases pretty much all come from Edward Furlong and the scene where he's trying to tell Arnold to be less robotic. "Chill out dickwad" and whatnot. And other catchphrases I would assume all pretty much come from Arnold, which wasn't even a surprise in 1991.

Basically I'm not sure why T2 can't be a little more lighthearted than the original movie, which is pretty damn brutal and heavy handed. You can kind of catch your breath a little at the sequel while still being wowed by special effects and violence. I don't think that because there are certain chuckle/comic relief moments that this movie is immediately dated and cheesy. There's a difference between a few moments here and the entirety of Fantastic Four 2, which is so over the top with bullshit comic relief that it's unwatchable.

I WILL agree that Terminator 2's deleted scenes are rubbish through and through. If you think that the regular film is cheesy, check out Arnold's smiling scene or the scene where Dyson's wife tries to get away from the computer and his kids come in laughing boisterously. These scenes I find to be completely out of place, which Cameron must have also thought too, and the rest of the film to actually be pretty tasteful.

I went into Batman Begins expecting to like it and coming out a little disappointed. I went into The Dark Knight expecting to dislike it and came out loving it. Now we've come full circle!

It's a really, really good movie. But it's gonna take some rewatches to really get into it, I think.

I don't really find the Bad to the Bone segment to be cheesy, I still think it's a badass moment.

I cannot let this slide. I respect you and all, but that scene cool and all was bullshit. Until then he had no standing order to "Not Kill". just like in the original, when he killed the trio of punks, or two at least, presumably the third. he would have laid waste to the entire bar. Until he received his no-kill directive.

I might be sliding down to not liking it as much as Begins. There are a lot of inconsistencies and stuff in the movie. It's going to take one or two more views to really decide.

Ted

I don't get how some films (mainly comedy) at times seem to take an old actor/franchise and completely flaunt him/it like product placement. In this film for some reason Seth MacFarlane has used Sam L. Jones of 'Flash Gordon' fame in what seems to be some kind of agreement to try and reboot his career. Well that's how it comes across to me anyway haha no other reason for him being there really. I'm guessing its in a typical 'Family Guy' style just to have random off the wall moments with cameos.

So Seth MacFarlane breaks into the movies with this 'Family Guy' orientated comedy. I say 'Family Guy' orientated because even though it has nothing to do with 'FG' the main character of 'Ted' sounds just like 'Brian' and 'Peter' from 'FG' (yes I know that's how MacFarlane sounds in reality), he wrote it with 'FG' writers, plus he utilizes 'FG' voice actress Mila Kunis also, so its home from home in a way.

I expected this to be totally downright funny and hilariously filthy, it was but not as much as I hoped for. Yes there are some grand bits of dialog that sound so cynical and sharp with MacFarlane's well spoken tones but they are few and far between.

Even the swearing isn't as cool as you would think. At first you think its gonna be awesome to finally here 'Peter' and 'Brian Griffin' use bad profanity but it wains fast. At first its highly effective but as time passes the novelty where's off. Its like a sexy sultry woman dressed in a tight skimpy revealing outfit, its amazingly hot and never fails to keep you excited. Then you see the same woman completely naked...straight away she no longer becomes as hot because all the mystery is gone, she's right there in the buff with nothing left to hide.

So in other words when we see 'Family Guy' without swearing its actually more effective than if it had swearing, because it makes you use your imagination and I think comes across funnier. It works for this film (at times) I'm just saying hearing MacFarlane swear wasn't as funny as I thought it would be (can anyone beat 'Cartman' in those stakes?). Hope you all get what I'm saying hehe.

As for the rest its kinda average really, nothing much happens in the film until the finale which does get a whole lot better. Kudos to Giovanni Ribisi with his excellent 'Norman Bates' style father character, easily the best thing to watch towards the end. The sequence where he is dancing in front of the TV to 'Tiffany' is creepy as fudge plus hilarious at the same time...yet I'm not sure why lol! I think it was the pelvic moves.

There are a few weirdly eerie moments in the film, probably down to the fact its based around a living teddy bear. The point where 'Ted' fights Wahlberg is kinda creepy in a disturbing horror type way. I reckon its suppose to be a take on the sequences in 'Family Guy' where 'Peter' fights that large chicken character (seems to use the same sound effects too). Was it suppose to be funny?!. Seeing 'Ted' having sex, being with hookers and dating hot women is also rather odd, why would a real woman wanna go out with a teddy bear?? Yes its a fantasy film but really?

Other than that it does satisfy to a degree, its just not as good as it could of been methinks. Ending was sweet but totally predictable lame fluff, Wahlberg was miscast in my opinion (the guy can't act, why does no one see this?!) and clearly MacFarlane has a 'Flash Gordon' fetish. He stuck Sam Jones in there why again? (looks good for his age though, can't deny that).

Sorry for comparing 'Family Guy' to this so much, hard not to really...oh and for typing it a alot too

Yeah, but it's a different character, a different terminator. He was reprogrammed by the good guys, remember?

The scene is fine until that 'Bad to the Bone' song came on, to me it just seemed really out of place.

The Michael Biehn one is probably the only one worth a damn because it sets up the dream that comes up later in the movie.

The Thing (new one) - I remember Sil talked about the Thing never acted in character - ie. attacking people in broad daylight with no stealth or subtlety.  I gave it the benefit of the doubt, thinking it might get more sneaky as the film went on to eventually resemble the creature as portrayed in the Carpenter film.  Sadly not.  Kate getting attacked by the other chick thing was dopey.

In other aspects I think they tried really hard, but it ended up being a copy (how apt) of the original flick. They seemed to arrive at the conclusions a bit too quickly - and ultimately, why didn't the Thing fly away thousands of years ago if the ship was operational?  Or why didn't the dog run there?

And somehow despite all that - I dug it.  I think I enjoyed the effort more than the final result.
