He mentioned it to me, Eld that is. I don't think he believed it was real, asked some of his folk at Fox.

People play pranks all the time. I remember some guy on my forum and he posted something about a game called AvP Hybrid. It was obviously fake. It didn't stop Hicks posting it on AvPWorld though. You just need to look out for these things. You can usually tell.

Just seemed very well done, PlanetAvP even bought it. Not to matter, I don't work on that site anymore.

True, seen quite a few things in the past on PlanetAvP that aren't happening now, not to worry though.

I don't think it was a prank. They'd have to go through pre-production in order to present their idea to Fox in order to get the Predator license. But worse, as a start-up, they'd have a long time between designing a game and being able to sell it. British banks are notoriously disinterested in such proposals - I remember talking to a bank manager a few years ago who had a games designer trying to get a loan. The worst thing was that the bank manager had played some of the games in his youth that this guy had worked on before he had set up his own games company. The bank manager even really liked the tech-demo and preproduction stuff the guy had to show him to get the loan. And the bank manager had no choice but to turn it down - the bank thought that a hundred grand with a business plan that won't even start to think about paying the money back for another two years was way too risky. The bank manager was gutted. And apparently he never heard anything more about the start-up or the game so I guess the guy never got the finance.

Which is odd, as i thought a game including Predators or a mix of both would sell very well, especially in the case your talking about when the demo was excellent. Oh well, you win some and you lose of the them i suppose.

Making a game nowadays is even more difficult than making a film. You've got to keep on a full-time staff of maybe up to 20 people for maybe as many as three years before you've got a product that you can sell.
So the problem starts as 'how can I make the best [insert sub-genre] game ever?' and transforms into 'how can I afford to keep my grapics team employed for the next three months now that I'm spending half our income on paying back the loan?'
I think they may have bitten up a bit too much to chew with a license as their first game on a console that was in prototype phase at that time. I mean look what hapened to that Colonial Marines game - and these were people who had at least one (well selling, moderately recieved) game up their sleeve already.

Can this wait? I need to do some calibrations
|
Well i guess that means only the big studios like Blizzard, Lionhead and 20th Centuary Fox can make games and fox is really bad at it...

There a few more than that, EA for a start. But you are right that the numbers are getting lower.
