One of my all time favourite tracks, The Mercy Beat, from The The?s? Infected album, I especially love last three verses as the track picks up pace Theres a high wind blowin? and the stars are shining bright, Oh what a night this is gonna be ? I think I?ll let the world sleep without me, I got one eye open, one eye closed and my thin body?s trembling beneath the bed clothes, My hearts beatin? against the roof of my mouth ? it?s almost time to get outta this house.
I got one hand on the radio, one hand on the wheel, I got my right foot to floorboard and I?m preparing to kill or be killed.
There?s a high wind blowin? and the stars are shining bright, And the rain upon the tarmac - helps me sail through the traffic lights I?m heading down to the dock of the bay ? to feel the power of the waves I?m gonna move up close to the wind ? and wrestle with the thoughts solitude always brings
Y?see I?m stuck between hell and the deep blue sea, And I know that water?s sucked under better men than me
I was just another Western guy with desires that couldn?t be satisfied, So one day, I asked the angels for inspiration ? but the devil bought me a drink, And he?s been buying them ever since He?s had the liquor on my tongue ? feel like the sea upon the sand, He?s had me signing confessions from this shaking hand, He?s had me struggling to hang onto hope ? like a drunken sailor in a tug boat With a bottle of vodka in my overcoat and my dog eared bible lost ? overboard
Y?see he tricked me into temptation, So I?ve tricked him into this confrontation, I never said I was the man I appeared to be- not the flesh wrapped around bones of necessity Or soul on fire ? scribbling thoughts for posterity
I?m gonna have little Lucifer, runnin? off to purgatory - with his tail between his legs, I?m gonna teach him a lesson ? he ain?t never gonna forget All the vultures and crows are fixin? up some tombstones, They won?t be chewing the meat off my bones
There's a high wind blowin? and the stars are shining bright, Me and him are gonna have a little knife fight, In the bowels of the deep city skyline, Oh this feelin? inside runs dark and deep ? tonight my heart starts thumping THE MERCY BEAT
I was just another Western guy, with desires that couldn?t be satisfied ? Oh ho ? yeah ? ooow - AHH

"What the hell are you?"

"Like a Rolling Stone" - Bob Dylan
Once upon a time you dressed so fine You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you ? People'd call, say, "Beware doll, you're bound to fall" You thought they were all kiddin' you You used to laugh about Everybody that was hangin' out Now you don't talk so loud Now you don't seem so proud About having to be scrounging for your next meal.
How does it feel How does it feel To be without a home Like a complete unknown Like a rolling stone ?
You've gone to the finest school all right, Miss Lonely But you know you only used to get juiced in it And nobody has ever taught you how to live on the street And now you find out you're gonna have to get used to it You said you'd never compromise With the mystery tramp, but know you realize He's not selling any alibis As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes And say do you want to make a deal?
How does it feel How does it feel To be on your own With no direction home Like a complete unknown Like a rolling stone ? You never turned around to see the frowns on the jugglers and the clowns When they all come down and did tricks for you You never understood that it ain't no good You shouldn't let other people get your kicks for you You used to ride on the chrome horse with your diplomat Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat Ain't it hard when you discover that He really wasn't where it's at After he took from you everything he could steal.
How does it feel How does it feel To be on your own With no direction home Like a complete unknown Like a rolling stone ?
Princess on the steeple and all the pretty people They're drinkin', thinkin' that they got it made Exchanging all precious gifts But you'd better take your diamond ring, you'd better pawn it babe You used to be so amused At Napoleon in rags and the language that he used Go to him now, he calls you, you can't refuse When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose You're invisible now, you got no secrets to conceal.
How does it feel How does it feel To be on your own With no direction home Like a complete unknown Like a rolling stone ?

I've got my Quiet Eye on you...

"Close to the Edge" by Jon Anderson, Steve Howe and Chris Squire; from the album Close To The Edge by Yes: I. The Solid Time of Change (Anderson/Howe)
A seasoned witch could call you from the depths of your disgrace, And rearrange your liver to the solid mental grace, And achieve it all with music that came quickly from afar, Then taste the fruit of man recorded losing all against the hour. And assessing points to nowhere, leading ev'ry single one. A dewdrop can exalt us like the music of the sun, And take away the plain in which we move, And choose the course you're running.
Down at the edge, round by the corner, Not right away, not right away. Close to the edge, down by a river, Not right away, not right away.
Crossed the line around the changes of the summer, Reaching out to call the color of the sky. Passed around a moment clothed in mornings faster than we see. Getting over all the time I had to worry, Leaving all the changes far from far behind. We relieve the tension only to find out the master's name.
Down at the end, round by the corner. Close to the edge, just by a river. Seasons will pass you by. I get up, I get down. Now that it's all over and done, Now that you find, now that you're whole.
II. Total Mass Retain (Anderson/Squire)
My eyes convinced, eclipsed with the younger moon attained with love. It changed as almost strained amidst clear manna from above. I crucified my hate and held the word within my hand. There's you, the time, the logic, or the reasons we dont understand.
Sad courage claimed the victims standing still for all to see, As armored movers took approached to overlook the sea. There since the cord, the license, or the reasons we understood will be.
Down at the edge, close by a river. Close to the edge, round by the corner. Close to the end, down by the corner. Down at the edge, round by the river.
Sudden problems shouldn't take away the startled memory. All in all, the journey takes you all the way. As apart from any reality that you've ever seen and known. Guessing problems only to deceive the mention, Passing paths that climb halfway into the void. As we cross from side to side, we hear the total mass retain.
Down at the edge, round by the corner. Close to the end, down by a river. Seasons will pass you by. I get up, I get down.
III. I Get Up, I Get Down (Anderson/Howe)
In her white lace, you could clearly see the lady sadly looking. Saying that shed take the blame For the crucifixion of her own domain. I get up, I get down, I get up, I get down.
Two million people barely satisfy. Two hundred women watch one woman cry, too late. The eyes of honesty can achieve. How many millions do we deceive each day? I get up, I get down. I get up, I get down.
In charge of who is there in charge of me. Do I look on blindly and say I see the way? The truth is written all along the page. How old will I be before I come of age for you? I get up, I get down. I get up, I get down. I get up, I get down.
IV. Seasons of Man (Anderson/Howe)
The time between the notes relates the color to the scenes. A constant vogue of triumphs dislocate man, it seems. And space between the focus shape ascend knowledge of love. As song and chance develop time, lost social temprance rules above. Ah, ah.
Then according to the man who showed his outstretched arm to space, He turned around and pointed, revealing all the human race. I shook my head and smiled a whisper, knowing all about the place. On the hill we viewed the silence of the valley, Called to witness cycles only of the past. And we reach all this with movements in between the said remark.
Close to the edge, down by the river. Down at the end, round by the corner. Seasons will pass you by, Now that its all over and done, Called to the seed, right to the sun. Now that you find, now that you're whole. Seasons will pass you by, I get up, I get down. I get up, I get down. I get up, I get down. I get up.
