Don't panic until shooting starts. Just think of how many of these projects gets shitcanned before they go into production.

That's what we hoped about Predators.
I still don't understand why a movie that takes place in the world of Predator/Predator 2, but a an Alien movie that is a total remake?

May not be a remake: Scott's producing it, so there's the hope that he won't want to see one of his classics tarnished any more now he'll have a hand in how it turns out. There's a compilation of Rinsch's work here. Rincsch has worked with/for Scott before, so I'd presume this would be Scott's choice as a director. Could be interesting. Can't be as bad as AVP1&2, that would take some doing!

Remember what Scott said about changing the nature of the beast... Too early to say, but it might not even have Ripley in it. Although there's plenty of room for fleshing out Ripley's backstory - what happened to Amanda's dad, why Ripley chose to abandon her daughter for three years at a time, why she's the most suspicous and untrusting of the characters we meet in Alien.

So it sounds like a reconciliation of The Chronicles of Ripley and the Alien prequel Scott has been talking about?

It sounds like the Alien prequel Scott's been talking about. Looks like it may well be going ahead.
(And Ridley not directing it means he gets to do The Forever War as well, hopefully his next film. Sweet.)

Too bad they couldn't have made The Forever War into an Alien movie, don't you agree?

Wouldn't work in the Alien universe - the whole relativistic angle's blown, and with it the need to set up beach-heads around collapsars and the like.
Then you'd have the problem with the Taurans, and how they could've become the race that they did if the galaxy's got nasty stuff like Aliens and evidence of other spacefaring species in the guise of the Space Jockey.
Then you'd have to retcon the USCM and Hadley's Hope to fit the profile of the military in The Forever War - the kind of trigger happy top brass who respond to the accidental loss of a ship as an act war that lasts centuries.

So basically could, but it would undermine both the book and the Alien series.
It'll take Scott years to make it though. If Avatar fops, which is a distinct possibility, kiss any chance of it bing 3D goodbye.

Here are the pros and cons as I see it... Pros: They could have a better edit when they put Ash's head on the table. The actress playing Ripley might have a better ass than Weaver's. This could lead to redoing the sequels as well, leading to better versions of the sequels (you know my gripes about them). As much as I hate the concept of the reboot, I haven't yet been let down by one. Cons: Although the guy who had made the original Alien and Blade Runner is somewhat supervising it, so is the guy who had made Hannibal. Going back to the possibility of this being a prequel, watch Episodes I & II of Star Wars, and Hannibal Rising, and get back to me.
