Great work, as always.  If you use the first (somewhat modern-looking) flamethrower, it might be useful to have two tanks - one full of flammable stuff, which may be a liquid or a gel, and another full of pressurized gas to spray your fuel out.  If you have just one tank, your fuel itself has to be a pressurized gas, which is great for making fire, but not so great for setting things on fire unless they're already pretty flammable.

Keep us posted - I like seeing your work.

Yeah, I've kept this in mind with "Model 2", with a pressure module at the rear of the weapon and a tank full of liquid fuel. "Model 1" I deliberately designed to cause problems in the film, having only pressurized gas and limited range, and is a nuisance to carry around.

I got the idea of having two different kinds of flamethrowers from John Carpenter's The Thing, where the first one is the good military model mostly used by MacReady, which had three tanks if I remember right, and there was another one just like my "Model 1", a basic propane version with limited range.

Heh, now that you mention it it kind of does!

This is what it's based on:

Since I love ZZ Top, I thought it would be a nice homage.

Costumes:

Patches on the Captain's jacket is a bit sloppy.

Originally this was going to be a flight suit, but the patches I used make it look too cheesey. Plus it doesn't fit anymore.

All of the following descriptions date back before I released photos of the resulting models.
---------------------------

In the script, many types of craft and equipment can be found in the cargo bay, such as a "Hover-Copter", tracked surface repairing unit, and several utility/repair vehicles, including "Taarna".

DA artist Rodney Sellars drew me sketches of three of those vehicles...

The utility/repairing craft, later named "Taarna":

http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/2720/shuttle2v.jpg

The "Hover-Copter":

And the tracked surface repairing unit:

http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/6208/repairunit.jpg

However, his design for the Hover-Copter was far too large and I decided to shrink it down to a Nagler-type design:

http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/198/a/e/hovercopter___my_alternate_by_stingray_24-d3z8v46.png

I had also realized that I didn't plan the escape shuttle design. So I decided that I recreate the utility/repair shuttle to a more boxy shape, and give the escape shuttle the aerodynamic look.

Taarna revised concept:

http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/3208/taarna.png

And so I designed the escape shuttle like the earlier Taarna concept, with a mix of another design Sellars had done, a small hovercraft called "Aeronaut". With his kind permission, I used that name.

I removed the repairing arms and made a special mechanism to reveal the shuttle within the Dreadnaught's hull, in which a panel slides back, exposing the craft to the vacuum, and a large hinge would rotate the shuttle to an outward position, allowing the shuttle to safely blast away.

Sellars' concept for "Aeronaut":

My concept, as the escape craft, demonstrating it's activation:
