James Cameron to Work on Aliens: Colonial Marines?
« on: June 21, 2009, 07:20:48 PM »

In an off-the-cuff remark to Australian gaming site Game Player head honcho of Gearbox, Randy Pitchford, mentioned that James Cameron would be working on, the still to be developed, Aliens: Colonial Marines:

Gearbox Software has trademarked the name Pandora for the planet used in the game Borderlands. Problem is, James Cameron's Avatar also includes a planet called Pandora. I got chatting with the charismatic Randy Pitchford - nice bloke - about whether or not he was going to tell Mr. Cameron where to go. He pointed out it was a delicate situation as they need to work with the famous director on Aliens: Colonial Marines - so it looks like if anyone changes, it will be poor old Borderlands (which looked a treat btw).

Thanks to Sinister in the AvPNew forums for the tip.

Sounds like that's the closest we'll ever get to having Cameron involved in the franchise again.  Roll Eyes

From what I hear the production has stalled again due to a variety of reasons. Hopefully it can get back on track.

Ive been a member on the gearbox forums for a couple of years now, ive not heard of any problems.
Just that Sega will not allow them to release news. Sure we will hear more once AVP3 has been released!

Trust me. It's at a standstill right now. But it's future probably does rely on the success of Aliens vs. Predator to a degree.

The game is still on track according to Kotaku and Randy Pitchford.

"It's been a long, long time since we saw (or heard) anything meaningful from Gearbox about their promising shooter Aliens: Colonial Marine. So you'll be happy to know that, with Borderlands out of the way, it's good to go.

Gearbox's Randy Pitchford has told MCV that "It's the thing I've been stealing from all my career. Now I'm really working on it, but we've been quiet about that so far".

Pitchford says that despite first revealing the game nearly three years ago, work on the developer's surprising hit Borderlands (and its subsequent downloadable content) "took over" the studio, meaning the team has only recently been able to get back to Aliens.

After the Marines were such a lacklustre part of Rebellion's AvP, it'll be interesting to see what Gearbox can do with an entire game built around the universe's most well-armed alien food group."

This is a good thing. I seriously wanted this game so much more than the new AVP.

What type? Hopefully (for once) the kind that turns out to be just as good as it looks/sounds from press releases.
