One of the developers of the now dead RPG Aliens: Crucible provided some feedback in the RPG Codex forums this past weekend: The game was most certainly NOT a grind fest. Experience was awarded for completing objectives and stealth was greatly encouraged.
Basic gameplay was your party was composed of 3 to 4 members. Party members could be from 1 of 4 different professions, marine, agent, engineer, and ugh...I forget the 4th at the moment .
In addition to stealth, party members could place traps for Aliens, such as turrets, mines, door bombs, and more. Doors could also be welded or cut to slow down Alien movement and create bottlenecks.
There was research, crafting, base defense and much more in the game and working. He goes on to further discuss the recently leaked concept images as well as the Onyx gaming engine which was going to power the game. Thanks to deezelboy for the link. More at RPG Codex.

To be perfectly honest: I've never been a big fan of RPGs, so I'm not terribly disappointed...

Always thought an Alien RPG could work if it wasn't a turn-based RPG and more of an action RPG, combining FPS elements with RPG elements. Story telling with fierce combat that is modified by stats and gear and such. If they try and WoW it up too much, I dunno if it's gonna work (even though it works fine for WoW), needs to be more like Mass Effect meets Gears of War or Call of Duty 4.
