The games are 10 times better than the movies. That is for sure.

That would explain why the predator's vision was washed out with heat when he took off his helmet (when fighting Dutch). In the sequel, this didn't happen due to him being in a chilled slaughterhouse, totally logical, IMO.

But in Predator, he couldn't see Dutch when he came out of the water with his helmet still on. Dutch was camouflaged with the mud, but if the Predator's vision is based on heat then surely he would've been able to still detect him?

The mud would've been the same temperature as the surrounding environment (at least for a while), so it masks Arnie's body heat.

Not seen the Mythbusters, but it should do!

The problem may be that the mud warms to your body temperature quite quickly (mud's not a good insulator), but initially it should work.

I believe that is exactly what happened if I remember correctly....but it only masked his heat for a few seconds.

The aliens see using heat too.  This is alluded to in Resurection when Ripley says she can feel the movement of Cole's hand in front of her face, either that or some kind of sonar.

Just to jump in here:

I just watched the movie the other day, and it's funny to me how the Predator shoots a rat, and then just walks away. Isn't he supposed to be a hunter? He doesn't even look for Dutch, he just stands there and turns his head back and forth a few times. Then he acts all pissed when the heat signature just turns out to be a small animal instead.

What a lazy bastard.

I was watching it yesterday and just figured that the Predator thought he'd gotten away.

 Huh

She can see Call's hand in front of her face.  Any 'feelings' she's talking about is to do with the Aliens - not Call.

Why did he shoot at the rat though ?
Everyone talks about Anytime being the most carefull/clever hunter of all.
Giving away his position by shoosting a rat ? Silly.

I dont think he really had to worry about giving away his position, he already had Dutch on the run he probably was angry that a human could disapear from him in only a short period of time.

Bored? I'm pretty sure he was frustrated by the fact that he was outsmarted by an ooman.
