Ridley is 73 years old. He has his pick of projects. To opt for an ALIEN segment I think you can trust him to make it somewhat special.
The STAR TREK re-boot by JJ Abrams I felt was excellent even after all those years of movies and TV series.
Who knows? This may be a great legacy.

Let's hope they somehow manage to get Giger on board as well.

Ok, now that's just straight up wishful thinking.

If the Alien prequel is as good as the Star Trek reboot I think I'd be happy. I actually quite enjoyed Star Trek despite the fact I didn't think Abrams had it in him to pull off. As I'm not much of an Abrams fan overall (hated Cloverfield). Limited Vertigo and myself have been through this discussion before and it just ends up going in circles. He doesn't want another Alien film, period. Even if it was the most awesomest filmage to date (which to me doesn't make sense, but hey). I, personally, can't condemn a film based solely alone on past history. Without knowing any of the details of the storyline, cast or crew (aside from Ridley, which is fantastic news, and Spaihts) there just isn't enough to go on. Until then I remain optimistic Fox will pull one out of the fire. Could I be setting myself up to be really disappointed? Sure. But you could say that for just about any movie nowadays. P.S. And holy crap, I forgot Riddles is 73 years old! You go guy!

People used to say the same thing about Ridley Scott directing though.

I guess, but Giger has refused to be involved with like anything having to do with Alien these days. Until then I remain optimistic Fox will pull one out of the fire. Innocent until proven guilty.

Oh and wanted to point out that the Star Trek reboot was fun to watch the first time but plot holes galore opened up after the second viewing. It's eye candy and little to no depth. I certainly wouldn't want that for an Alien movie. Rebooting Star Trek is nothing compared to the implications this "prequel" will have.

Thats a reason to think otherwise, he has done it before and therefore can do it again. By the same token, just because he has, doesn't mean he can again. Cinematic history attests to the repeated inability of incredibly talented people who create really phenomenal works to repeat even half the success of their early creations. Tobe Hooper leaps to mind. Starts out with the friggin' Texas Chainsaw Massacre and winds up doing the direct-to-DVD Toolbox Murders remake. Having Ridley's a good sign and all, but Alien was so much a collaborative effort I'll wait until I hear who else is getting attached before I approach this thing anything more than cautiously.

Well, that's a lot more positive than anything you said about AVP-R!
