One of the great things about teh Alien titles especially Alien and Alien 3 was teh atmosphere and suspense, along with the fact that they were scary as hell. Why do they always make 3D shooters of Alien games? I reckon now that the Resident Evil series is coming to a close, they should buy the rights to the Alien series and make a survival horror game in the vein of RE. I'm talking about the traditional RE games, not RE4. Think of the potential.

"Stay frosy people" Corporal Hicks, Aliens.

Hmm..well the fact that it'd be 3rd person would take away the scariness. I mean, you could see stuff coming from behind.

I've been more scared by the third-person RE games than by any FPS, particularly the first Resident Evil on the PS1. Code Veronica also hada lot of eeriness. The only FPS I've been scared by was Half-Life 2 on the Ravenholm section - those fast zombie bastards are lethal. Actually, they kinda remind me of the alien in Alien 3.

Let's not forget Silent Hill 2. You'd better play that game when you're sitting on a toilet or with a tube up your ass.

Alien (1981?) on the ZX Spectrum showed a lot of promise in that respect.
Essentially, and speaking in today's freakish lingo, it was a third-person game where you controlled the crew of the Nostromo. You would tell them to do things, and they would, but there was a crude personality system built in so that each member of the crew might or might not actually go along with your orders. Lambert would never go into the freakin' air ducts, for example, and Parker was prone to going a bit aggressive and killing the Alien if he had a weapon in his hand, generally breaching the hull and killing everybody else.
Even better than that, one of the crew was an android (who it was changed in every game), so just as you thought you had everything under control and were about to flush the Alien out of the airlock or blow the ship, the android would alert the Alien or cancel the self-destruct or sabotage important parts of the Nostromo and Narcissus. And Jones would trigger the bastard motion tracker!
Obviously it's very very dated. But it was one of the scariest games I've ever played. Especially when the motion tracker went off when you were just getting things ready. Somebody should remake this.

Whoa, sounds like a great game Deezleboy. What console was it on?? And also, yeah a 3rd person alien game would be shit scary. I can imagine it now, although it would be hard to make a good story for a lone person, not a marine or anything. And have them set in an envioment swarming with aliens.

I believe I might have, but not in a while and probably in passing. Truth is, back in 2004 I was trying to do a Flash version of it. Then I realised that it probably wasn't suited to vector graphics, so I put it on hold. I might have mentioned something to you about it a year ago, when you put up a thread asking about deck plans and other stuff about the Nostromo... I still think this game warrants a remake. I tried playing it on a Speccy emulator 2 years ago, and finally came to the conclusion that games really do date. So somebody needs to do a more up-to-date one. Because 1984 was a long time ago.

Very much survival horror in the beginning. Just you, a confined space and the blip of your motion sensor.
One of my favourite parts is when you go to rescue a marine in the hive. You get there too late and then the next thing you know there literally, no bullshit, hundreds of them chasing you back to the APC.
