Alien 0rigins Nice thinking. ALIEN The Prequel MoVie Now we're thinking like an ad agency! Clever. Alien: The Search For More Money LOL! Sad but true, I guess I just don't like that it's a forgone conclusion that the Space Jockeys will be in this. I was hoping of a different storyline. I'd prefer them to stay mysterious and anonymous and have something else be the focal point. I agree. As interesting as a visit to the Space Jockeys may be, it will kill the mystery that made Alien so interesing and spooky. That's one hell of a challenge for the filmamkers to overcome. But that alone I suppose is no reason not to meet that challenge head on. Lets hope Scott manages to pull it off.

I was just thinking that it'll be interesting to see what modern special effects can do for the Space Jockey's themselves...but then I realized Scott usually makes movies that are such a product of their times, it'll probably be packed with CGI.

If the Jockeys aren't in the prequel, then the only other scenario I can think of is the horrid idea that the Nostromo crew weren't the first humans to encounter the aliens (barring the AVP movies).
What's so horrid about that? Might even explain the mysterious black box behind the egg! But in all seriousness, you could still have other players against the Alien before the first movie, just don't make it W-Y. Part of a story I wrote with Deez - but later changed and expanded on - had a crew of enterprisers and documenters on a foreign planet, think Steve Zissou in space, coming across Alien life. Except it wasn't entirely the Alien as we know it. I never properly finished the story though, but I'm hoping to see something like this.

I think something along the lines of Steel Egg could be rather good. Of course I really enjoyed that book, so I'm biased I suppose.

It's very hard to explain since I never finished the story. What happened was that the enterprisers were forced to seek refuge on a foreign, uncolonized and hostile planet as a result of a previous space battle, happening just before the movie begins. With air running out and supplies running low, the people will have little short of a week's time before they're all goners. So during the night, these really microscopic, super-miniscule tremors or vibrations are travelling through the ship, caused by *something* beneath the planet's surface. I don't know what the vibrations are, maybe some kind of alien frequency (...) which has a knack of operating the human body on a cellular level at the state of which when humans are often most receptive to these influences -- during their sleep. Some form of alien larva crawls up out of the ground into the ship and starts chewing/infecting one of the crew member's balls (insert alien DNA in sperm plz), while the frequency would tune and manipulate two humans, one male and one female, tricking them into having intercourse (basically, a signal which activates/stimulates human hormones) so that while the woman was pregnant, the signal will exploit the genetic outcome of the womb and cocoon the woman from the inside out into either an egg (transforming her whole body), an actual adult alien (beautiful butterfly - very Giger-e!) or just a chestburster within her womb (booo!). I imagine it to be somewhat of a mix between The Andromeda Strain, the first act of Planet of the Apes and ofcourse Alien.

Sounds pretty interesting. How long would gestation be, though?

At least a few days, it would kinda be like Slither, the guy who made the woman pregnant would care for her far away from the others and grow increasingly paranoid and psychotic, completely ignoring the obvious.. symtoms on her. Eventually the medical officer would have to do a checkup on the crew, que some action there.
I wrote it as a two-three hour epic so alot of stuff could probably be jammed in there.

Sounds awesome. Despite the subject matter, the Alien series didn't do a whole lot of infection paranoia and body horror type stuff (Rez don't count, it was a fucking cartoon!). It would be a damned good place to take the series.

Just talking about it makes me excited to work on it again! I just never ever really feel comfortable sitting down writing - I can never seem to catch up a good work flow. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Currently seeking Jagermeister sponsorship. One'a these days Sean Pertwee's gonna be in a movie where he doesn't die and he's going to kill every motherfucker ever.

Rusty, I love your work, but for God's sake, never finish writing that. Please. For an original sci-fi story, hell, I'd be there opening day. As an Alien movie, just ...no. Please. No.

Be open-minded!
I didn't write it as a story for the Alien franchise (altough it was based on one that, like I said, I wrote with Deez) but my point was that with a few changes here and there, it could be fitted into one. Plus, I'm not interested in seeing something we've already seen before, hence why it would be intriguing to see Alien approached from a completely different angle, which is what I'm hoping this new movie will do.
Feel free to toss an idea or two yourself onto the table!

My philosophy has always been I'd rather no stories, than stories for the sake thereof, and if one needs to make massive changes to have it work, well, maybe don't?
Not you specifically, just in general. See also, Chet. Ugh.
I wouldn't mind seeing what we've seen before, just approached differently.
Taking your Steve Zissou setup, rather than ball-munching larvae and genetics-affecting sounds, have our good old Messrs Face-huggers sneak onto the ship. Have two, prowling while the crew sleeps, and not show who gets infected. They find the dead huggers, but have no idea what they are - one dude pops and they put two and two together. But there were two huggers - who's the other infectee?
Bring back egg morphing for that extra touch of body horror. Make the Alien more thoughtful in its actions than we've seen. Have it spread a plague, Nosferatu-style, through the ship.
...Shit, now I wanna write that.
I think there are too many unique ways of exploiting existing features left. Alien worked entirely on this principal - Everything you've ever seen before in a sci-fi horror monster flick, just not how you've seen it.
