Taking your Steve Zissou setup, rather than ball-munching larvae and genetics-affecting sounds, have our good old Messrs Face-huggers sneak onto the ship. Have two, prowling while the crew sleeps, and not show who gets infected. They find the dead huggers, but have no idea what they are - one dude pops and they put two and two together. But there were two huggers - who's the other infectee?

Do that Alien 3 opening credits style and it would be kick ass!

My philosophy has always been I'd rather no stories, than stories for the sake thereof, and if one needs to make massive changes to have it work, well, maybe don't?
This holds true ofcourse. If we were given a sufficient enough story with well-developed characters, I would be completely satisfied with an Alien movie with solely facehuggers in it.

But since we're looking into what possible ways there could be to re-imagine the Alien as a whole (words of Ridley!), I think we need to step back and look outside the frame a bit for this one - not that I don't like your ideas!

Reminds me of Aliens: Kidnapped. The tale of the lone super-chestburster.

I haven't read the comic, but it's about a chestburster that never matures.

And if Ridley thinks we need to reinvent the Alien, I think he needs to stop being lazy. Shifty lookin' bugger...

You don't have to reinvent a shark to make it fucking terrifying - The only thing stopping the Alien being scary is the people making it. They get too into the idea that the audience is used to it, therefor won't find it scary, therefor don't even try. They could have done such wondrous things with the set-up of AVPR, but it was directed by monkey imitating men who couldn't construct the least bit of tension with a manual.

Maybe so, I still welcome it either way! just hope it won't turn into another "science experiment gone haywire" as an excuse to put a spin on the creature.

Jockies... aliens... Jockies... aliens...  Thinks

As I see it the alien will be re-worked regardless of who's doing it.  And if ADI is working on it...

Any chance we could get Rob Zombie in on this project? Wink

Shocked Cry

Exactly.  I was thinking of his plans for The Blob, and how he wanted to change the monster so it wasn't a... blob. He could make an alien film and change the beastie so it wasn't so much... an alien.

I love his music, but his films aren't at the top of my list of favorites.

For twice, I agree with SiL, although implementing his idea would make it a decent to particularly awesome alien movie. As something original, though, Rusty's original idea could be great.

While I'm not a fan of body horror, I could definitely see the prequel going that route (especially with the popularity of all the torture porn flicks lately), although infection paranoia is something that definitely needs to be explored more in Alien. Even the earth war comic series didn't really touch much on that particular theme.

Since Astrocreep 2000, so basically since he went solo, his music has been getting progressively wank.

But how do you top More Human That Human? Cheesy

Actually, I'd put several of his songs on par with, and if not better than More Human Than Human.

Demon Speeding
Dragula
Feel So Numb
How to Make a Monster (Kitty's Purrrrformance Remix)
Spookshow Baby (Black Leather Catsuit Remix) ...awesome!
Two-Lane Blacktop ...my current fav of his!  It's poppy but damned catchy!  great to crank up in the car!  Evil

...just to name a few.

Educated Horses isn't my favorite album, but it does have a few decent tracks.

...IMO
