Living Dead Girl has an awesome groove to it.

Currently seeking Jagermeister sponsorship. One'a these days Sean Pertwee's gonna be in a movie where he doesn't die and he's going to kill every motherfucker ever.

Actually, I'd put several of his songs on par with, and if not better than More Human Than Human.
Dragula I'll pretend I didn't read that because I want to continue being friends with you. Living Dead Girl has an awesome groove to it. It does. But I still think More Human than Human is the quintessential White Zombie song (with Thunder Kiss '65 a close second). I do like some of his solo work, pretty fond of American Witch, but I'd rather listen to Astrocreeep 2000 and La Sexorcisto any day. I honestly don't think Rob's ever been able to fill the void left by Sean Yseult on bass. On a side note, you know chicks dig money when Rob Zombie marries Sheri Moon.

I love his music, but his films aren't at the top of my list of favorites. I enjoy House of 1000 Corpses for its shock value and a few genuinely good scenes, but I could never accept an Alien film for shock value and just a few good scenes, so definitely out of the question. And I fucking hate The Devil's Rejects, so even more out of the question.

You don't have to reinvent a shark to make it fucking terrifying No, but you have to go quite far to stop the film feeling like a rerun of Jaws - much like those who don't like Alien 3 because they feel it's a rerun of Alien (not something I agree with, obviously!). Feel free to toss an idea or two yourself onto the table!
This isn't a serious idea for the prequel, but for a while I was trying to think of the largest change of direction you could do in the prequel that would subsequently alter all the rest of the films whilst wiping the AVP series out of any sense of canonicity it might mistakenly attempt to claim. Then I remembered O'Bannon's bitch-and-whine about the Ash subplot in Alien! Show a rival company (the RidTon Corp would do well here) constructing a fake Derelict with a fake Space Jockey on LV-426. The rival company has created the Alien on Earth as part of its bioweapons programme, and now wants to conduct a live weapons test on any other company that's stupid or greedy enough to take the bait. The subsequent films then show WY's utterly misguided quest for an Alien that isn't even alien, and Ripley's attempts to prevent the Alien from reaching Earth, even though it's a discontinued weapons project originating from there. It's such a massive way to wipe out all the films' mysteries, and probably the least likely way for the prequel to go, that a very small part of me (the morbidly curious part that takes an interest in those AVP films) wants it to be fully realised in some way.

Absolutely love that idea, deez, although I kind of doubt people would buy a corporation designing and building a spacecraft that immense and outside of logical human perception simply to dick with another company. I mean, sure its a little more than that, but still.

No, but you have to go quite far to stop the film feeling like a rerun of Jaws Change the plot. That's all that was ever needed from a shark movie - But instead most of them went straight to making the shark longer and longer and longer ...

I had a prequel idea in 1988 that involved a military ship encountering the Derelict prior to it setting down on LV-426. They encounter the Jockey just as it pops, one of them shoots the burster which creates the hole in the deck that Kane found.
It ended up being a fairly derivative "best of" of Alien and Aliens.

At this point I'd be content with something derivative as long as it's all put to good use and we get a decent film.

Neatly done and very tense, or at least atmospheric. Some of the footage at the end, where the camera dips below the waterline for a few frames and you see all the sharks, stayed with me for some time.

This. Absolutely. Obviously, we all want to go back to when Alien was putting out fresh ideas, but frankly, I'll be ecstatic if we just get a polished, well-crafted film that's solid in all its aspects, but not necessarily exceptional. Something, like was mentioned, along the lines of Open Water.
