I'm hoping that Ridley will go for some of the more seasoned veterans he's used in the past for that aspect of the movie.  Wink

Well, he's likely to have Sylvain Despretz doing the storyboarding along and he is good with concept design too, especially as Scott is unlikely to get Moebius for very long ,if at all.  (That's talking **** about Moebius, how should I know what Moebius' response would be)

I just hope this isn't another Steel Egg: "There was another human ship before the Nostromo!"

My mind has been going back to that ever since the prequel was announced, and if the Jockies are to be excluded from this then this is sadly the only route I see them taking.

I wonder if they're going the route of an entirely different species of alien altogether for this prequel; one, perhaps, that will be vanquished at the end utterly (extinct), but of course will set up the Company finding Acheron and the Alien alien.

That would fit in with Scott saying the Alien needed to be redesigned, but not by Geiger, as it would just be a variation of bio-organical.

Perhaps Ridley has come up with (hopefully) an awesome idea for an original alien creature after all these years away from the series.  Maybe this is Scott saying: "this is what the alien looked like before it ran across a bio-organical race" or "what else was cargo on-board the derelict?"

So basically Steel Egg is "Alien...again?"

Yeah but if you think about it... they can't really do this movie without an alien, and if its set some 30 years prior to ALIEN then somebody had to get to LV426 first.  Like most people, I don't want to see the Space Jockey's mystery explored either, but there must be something on board that ship we haven't seen yet....

I'd rather a rip-off of Alien.

If I'm gonna see an Alien movie, I want Aliens.

If it doesn't have THE Aliens in it, then I'm going to throw a fit. That's just a slap in the face.

It's a brand new box of tricks - that doesn't sound like its got the standard Alien in it.

Very interested!

That still doesn't comfort me. He might not be aware of some of the things that had been tried and failed (again, Steel Egg comes to mind), or he might see something that is in his eye unique whereas we might see as too over the top.

I haven't read Steel Egg, but I must confess I'd be a bit guilty of that as well!

Rusty and I were working on a similar theme for a game once - I had a crippled US Navy spaceship encounter the Derelict in a backstory (had great fun explaining the acid burns and the cardboard box in the Derelict!).

Spookily enough, the spaceship's discovery of the Derelict happened thirty years before the events of Alien!

Oooooooooooooeeeeeeeeeeeeeeoooooooooooooooo!

Not exploring the origins of the Space Jockey is the best piece of news, next to confirmation of Ridley himself directing, I've heard so far. I'm starting to get excited about this one.

Considering W-Y didn't seem to know much about the species in Alien I'm assuming the story will be self-contained. Unless we're lead to believe in the 30 years between films the knowledge of the aliens is lost (which is very plausible).

For some reason I'm thinking we might see the temple, as seen in the concept designs for Alien, make an appearance. Going with a planet based story would definitely be removed from anything like Steel Egg... However it would resemble AVP...

I actually rather enjoyed Steel Egg. It was definitely similar to alien, but there was enough variation there to keep things interesting, I felt.

This is sounding good, and while I think the idea of a whole new alien is a pretty good one, I highly doubt they would do that, because as with previous (shitty) films in the franchise, they're not making this for us, they're trying to get the people that aren't fans into the theater. If Ridley wanted to make a movie with a different kind of Alien, he wouldn't make it a prequel to Alien, imo.

Speaking as a fan, I don't want anything other than Aliens, capital A, in an Alien movie. I don't see how not doing that is pandering to the general audience and forsaking the fanbase itself. This is the Alien franchise. If they want a new creature they can feel free to piss off or call it something else.

It'd be like watching Alien 3, but it's a Predator instead of an Alien. That just ain't right.
