GameStop Exclusive Skins with Pre-Orders of AvP
« on: January 01, 2010, 08:22:53 PM »

Game Stop is offering three exclusive multi-player skins (one for each playable character type) with all pre-orders of Rebellion's upcoming AVP reboot.

  • SGT. Kaneko (Marine)- Veteran of 27 drops, including post-incident quarantine of Fiorina ‘Fury’ 161. Wrote the book on small-scale Xeno containment.
  • Number Six (Alien) - Personally selected by Karl Bishop Weyland for intensive testing at the Weyland-Yutani research lab on BG-386.
  • Alien Head Predator (Predator) - A special mask was created for the most successful Xenomorph Hunter of all time. It brings honor to all who wear it.

These skins will be available via in-store pre-orders, as well as online pre-orders. ...But they are only available from Game Stop.

For more details and to place your pre-order head on over to Game Stop.

The Predator looks pretty stupid to be honest.

Yeah, but I like how they used that old concept mask I think from that Batman Vs Predator film aka Dead End. Might not've been from that, but I distinctly remember seeing that mask fan made somewhere.

I like the Alien though.

It's a cool idea, but I hate these exclusive things that come with pre-orders. It's a one chance thing to acquire these and you can never get them again. Just kind of irritates me.

As long as you're not given an unfair advantage over other players, I don't see any problem with it. About as useless as gamerscore and achievements to me.

I agree with Sebastian.  It's a skin so it really has no bearing on game play, so I say good for Game Stop.

...And call me a sucker, but I put in my pre-order for AVP yesterday.

One thing though... SGT. Kaneko was part of the Fury 161 clean up?   How is that possible?  The game takes place 30 years after the events of A3... What, was he 10 years old?  I would figure a lifer in the USCM who was on Fury post-alien would be a bit older than this.  Not to mention that if he and wrote the book on small-scale alien containment I would think he'd have had some time in the Corp. already. To me he should have some gray hair and such.

I do like how #6 is a not-so-subtle reference to the ALIENS vol.2 Comic from the 90's.

Yeah, but don't these guys spend a substantial amount of time in hypersleep?

Yeah, it is odd, but don't forget, it does say post-incident, and he doesn't seem that young to me... Wink

Yeah, me too! One of the most memorable comics for me! Not to mention the Steve Perry novel adaptation!

Indeed they did.  I was just making a joke at my own expense.. being that I neglected to consider hypersleep.

Ditto!  The story and Denis Beauvais' art make it one of the most well crafted (and beautiful) of the ALIENS Comics.  Funny you should mention the Perry novelization - I was just thinking the other day that I should read that again.

Definitely! My copy is oh so worn and well-thumbed! I love Beauvais' alien artwork! It perfectly captures the feel of the Aliens era, plus those xenos look gorgeous!!! Smiley

And I was too afraid to admit that I had the great Thedus backed into a corner before you yourself admitted it. So...HAH! GOT YOU!

But just to elaborate, to become a Sergeant would probably take him about four years, or three if he was amazing. That's three total time out of hypersleep, so add up all the other time he's been traveling around the galaxy in those four years and i'd maybe add a total of four extra years? I mean if it takes ten months to get from LV-426 to Earth and I'm sure the military goes farther places away, then you'd have to factor in at least a year in hypersleep for a year out of hypersleep.

So I still am not sure if it makes sense for him to have been there to decontaminate 161.  Thinks

According to the novelization it took 3 weeks to travel from Gateway to LV-426.  Either FTL drives had been improved in 57 years, or the military used a more souped-up drive system than the standard transport... I'd wager it's actually a little of both.  And given that the Sulaco was passing Fiorina on the way back to Gateway from LV-426 the travel time may have been 2 - 2.5 weeks.  But I see what you're getting at - it's entirely possible that the majority of an enlistment could be spent in cryo.  It was also mentioned in the novelization that the standard enlistment is 10 years (presumably to compensate for time in sleep).

I would imagine that if he is the authority on small-scale alien containment that he would have been a Sgt (at the least) at the time he was assigned to Fiorina.  ...I can't imagine a Pvt. or Cpl. being so recognized unless they were a tactical genius. And even if he was a Pvt, you bring up a good point: why would he only be a Sgt 30 years later?  ...Unless he's currently a Sergeant Major or a  Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps.  Thinks

Seems like the kind of guy they'd throw a commission at, but hey, who's counting the amount of times people use the military in entertainment and know nothing about it?

That sentence is weird.
