Painful question (quite literally)
« on: March 03, 2010, 10:30:52 AM »

This is something I've been wondering for quite some time. When I have a burning type of pain, for instance when I have a small burn or a tiny bit of skin has been peeled off somewhere, I hear a weird throbbing sound in my ear whenever I rub the painful spot. It sounds very rapid and thick, almost like some ultra low frequency bass deep inside my ear.

Anyone have any idea what it could be? Is it the nerve conduction of the pain impulses somehow registering as throbbing noises deep inside my ear or something? Is that at all possible?

Could be some form of synaesthesia?

Here is my expert advice.

Go to the Doctor.

Asking people over the internet is a sure fire way of getting misdiagnosed or make a mountain out of a mole hill.

I'm just curious is all. It's nothing serious. Deezelboy's answer could be correct-ish.

I'd say you probably have some kind of prion disease. Couldn't be anything else. Just couldn't. Transmissible spongiform encephalopathy is my first thought...

And don't rub the painful spot.

I think some of you are misunderstanding my question Tongue. I'm not talking about some ailment/whatever I have right now that is worrying me, I'm just posing a general question about something that interests me.
