What will happen in the year 2012?

There are lot's of things that are saying that the year 2012 will be the end of the world. Is that true? Do you guys believe in this? I don't  think this will happen in the year 2012. Hope the better days will come soon. There are still lot's of evidence that shows the end of the world like Mayan Calendars are powerful evidence.
Please share your views too?

No.

It is simply when the Mayan Calender resets. There is absolutely nothing that backs up the doom sayers. They only predicted it because there was a massive Climate shift 5000 years ago and they used to think in cycles. And they do not predict the end of the world, just the rebirth/continuation.

I vaguely recall reading something about a rare stellar alignment or something occurring somewhere in 2012. Not sure if it was anything credible though.

Nah, it's not.  Every year in December the sun, as viewed from the Earth, will be aligned with the galactic equator.  Because of precession, every year the sun be positione a little further along the Milky Way, as seen from the Earth.  In 2012 the Sun will be lined up (as seen from the Earth) with the Dark Rift, which sounds scary but it's just a patch of dust blocking the light from the Milky Way.  This happens every 26,000 years.

It means absolutely nothing, but it certainly sounds ominous when you put 'Mayan Calendar Ends', 'Galactic Alignment', and 'Dark Rift' together without any kind of explanation as to what they are.  Ominous enogh to sell books!
