Which do you prefer (AVP movies)

AVP2 - at least it's so bad you can laugh at it.

So when we blame someone for Alien 3 being a mess we blame solely Fox executives, but when we blame someone for AvPR we blame people that have the same status that Fincher had on Alien 3: token director.

To be fair, Fincher was pretty critical of the production process on his film.  Anderson and the Strauses haven't had much to say in that regard.

Fincher shit-talked the production before the movie came out, clout or no.

The Strause Bros made it pretty clear, between their commentary and interviews, that they had enough creative freedom to shoulder much (Not all, but enough) of the blame. Some of the things people complain most about - Such as their abysmal treatment of the Aliens, which led to other problems such as anticlimactic fights and an inept "elite" Predator - were directly their doing.

The egg-barfing thing was Salerno, though.

Maybe he has a Kubrick complex. But maybe there wasn't enough of the script for him to shoot anything else at the time either.

Nah, he did it all they way through production.  Even during the reshoots it took something like 10 takes over 11 hours to film 5 seconds of footage.  Perfectionists!

I prefer AVP. AVP-R lacks story and character, all it is is blood and destruction. It is useless when your missing story and character! 

A better AVP movie would have the story and character of AVP and the violence of AVP-R combined.

AVP is far better but there is also room for improvement.

I liked the concept of a Pred alien in AVP-R but the design could of been way better and the impregnating role of the Pred alien ruined the creature. Leave the reproduction role alone for the damn Queen!

As for the designs of both the aliens and predators in both movies, I don't really complain much about that.

AVP was good IMO, but AVP-R is my pick because of Wolf, the Aliens look and I loved the Pred-Alien Queen no matter what the haters say, it's just my guilty pleasure and I can watch this movie over and over again. Screw the teen drama though, I usually skip that, actually I don't even have to skip it anymore because I got a hold of a fan edit by Wraith called AVP-Outbreak which really improved both movies IMO and this AVP fan edit actually even made me like it so much I put it on my top list with the rest of my favorite movies of all time.
ONLY PROBLEM I have with it is that some AVP-R shots got darker, and therefor I'm trying to find another fan edit where somebody has tweeked the lighting up a notch. There's another fan edit I have called Predator Chronicles by UA, but all my favorite kills were taken out, and unlike some I was a fan of the Young Predalien Queen AKA Chet, but all the reproduction scenes were cut and also some other cool action scenes were cut, so if there's anybody out there who might be able to help me out with a good fan edit of AVP-R that simply cuts out the teen drama and unneeded stuff and has at least a little better lighting then the original, please let me know! I'm on the hunt for one

The only thing I liked about AVP-R was the Predator, he was the best out of both AVP films IMO. The alien designs on the other hand were the most retarded pieces of shit I have ever seen and I'm sure Giger must have turned in his proverbial grave.

I do think AVP is my favourite of the two though as most others would agree.
Preds were kind of silly but not too bad. I quite liked the aliens actually, they weren't as good as the original of course, particularly because of their stupidly long tails and arthritic-looking hands, but I do really prefer the smooth domed aliens.

I'd like to place my vote also for AVP. I remember at the time before release watching alot of behind the scenes crap on the official site. Anderson seemed to have more of a clue than the Strause Bros. He had the whole timeline with the Mayans(or whoever). There was more backstory that I enjoyed, letting you know how this "war" on our planet came to be. Increasing the Wristblades wasnt a bad idea either. No more lame P2 less than a foot bs.
