I own a macbook Pro (Because I hate PCs as each one in the past as decided to self-destruct on me. ) and on it I run Parallels Desktop (Windows Emulation Software) which works a lot better than say BootCamp does. I installed AVP gold and for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to get the damn thing to do big things like play. The intro movie to each character loads but after that, it'll either freeze up on the loading bar or the sound will start to sound like a record being repeated over and over while no picture shows at all and all control is more or less locked out. Is there a fix for this somewhere? I know AvP 2 works, for the most part but even on that game I got issues... instead of a full screen of gameplay, the screen is like reduced to what has to be a medium square that you have to lean up into in order to clearly see what you're doing before you walk off a cliff or into a pred trap or some shit like that.
Are there fixes to these issues? I would really love it to be able to play these games on my mac (through Win Emu) without having to search for a PC laptop, downgrade the OS, and have to reinstall the games all over again. Thank you all kindly!

Can this wait? I need to do some calibrations

Try Bootcamp.
That or your computer may be to advanced to play it. It happens on my PC so I'm assuming it would happen on a Mac.

Whoa...hold the phone... Too advanced?! Seriously?! Granted during Win XP install, I shoved two gigs of RAM in its face for it to be happy and shoved almost 3 in its face for Video Memory processing and when it said number of processors, I only gave it one instead of two. Its weird... AvP 2 game title screen is full screen but the game and movie is all in this square and while the AvP gold does boot up and gets me on the menu... the actual game its self never even shows or plays. I got the mac versions, but to play those I gotta downgrade to fucking Tiger (I am using Snow Leopard) and than I gotta hunt around for the mac fix for AvP because even though it boots up to the game, the stupid arrow of the mouse sits on top of the game screen. -.=.- Someone seriously needs to like... make these games into DLC for the 360 or PSN because I got AvP fever and I am driving myself nuts trying to play.

Yea, they can be too advanced. Some games wont play on systems that run Vista/Windows 7 because they are that old.
Bare in mind AvP was made in 1999. Thats over 10 years ago.
It is possible for that to happen.

Well, know where I can land myself a ten year old Win XP laptop with SP 1 / 2 that has enough RAM in it for the games to play correctly? I don't need one of those uber hyped up machines that sound like an F22 taking off when you power it on - but I need a basic ten year old laptop or hell, even a eight year old laptop that would be suited to play these older games on.

Try to find out if someone has released a patch to make the game playable. I used to own the Alien Trilogy game for PC, and that had a similar issue. It's now so old that it won't run even with the patch, but AVP might still be made to work somehow.

I just won a Dell laptop that runs Win XP (Pre- Service Pack 2 ) and I know for certain that with that config, it should damn well run as it is nearly the same config of my Gateway computer from back in 03'. I plan to take it to the GeekSquad when it arrives, have them look it over and repair whatever is needed...might have them dump a bigger HDD in it and maybe an extra two gigs of memory - might swap out the vid card as well, if possible. I'll keep you all informed.

It's true that some older games won't run on new rigs since they're not compatible OS-wise. I'm on an iMac myself and have to boot up XP with Bootcamp each time I need to do some business in Windows. Bad example here, but you won't run Duke Nukem 3D without some kind of port like JonoF or Eduke. AvP is similar, but there are patches you can download unofficially if you know where to look. I couldn't tell you where though since it's been a while for me.
Hope that helps.
