Also, as far as setting one's expectations low, I had done so for the AVP movies and was still disappointed. LOL. Well I have to admit you got me there mate. Concerning Giger, I hope that if he is given free reign to design something totally new, he will bite.

When things change on certain subjects maybe you'll be able to witness a different opinion on my part, until then I certainly don't see it useful to cater to your reading needs. As if you don't reiterate the same opinion on certain subjects, I'm a good sport about it. I do (Fuck you Adrien Brody, you cocksucking cunt!), but it doesn't dominate my postings here. Maybe you forgot to put the /s but I'll reply as if you didn't.
Of course not, those are just a few of the building blocks that go towards creating a GREAT movie. You could have all three but have terrible casting, poor pacing, and bad editing to name a few.
Those are all instruments in creating the things I've listed. A new Alien movie has advantages over Scott's recent movies is that Iraq and gangsters and swords and sandals have been done a lot over the years, with space horror being an absolute rarity. With all the hack directors claiming their Alien/Predator film will "go back to the roots" it's Scott that says fuck the roots we need to freshen the proceedings up. That's not to say I'm 100% loving this film, to me 3D is a gimmick and a step in the wrong direction. It's not even realistic considering the images are being projected on a flat 2D screen. I know I can go see 2D screenings but then I run the risk of seeing a film throwing crap at my face in 2D which will just shit all over any good work accomplished in the film.

dudelove,
I agree 100% with you in regards to 3D. What are your thoughts on Ridley's decision to unveil the origin or at least the mystery behind the Space Jockey?

I don't think it will explain the Jockey exactly, it will more likely show what we already knew happened.
I'm thinking, the Jockey's already have eggs on their ships and they get shot down by the humans, so the egg stasis is interrupted leading the the Jockey crew getting impregnated and the humans dealing with a Jockey born alien.

I should have been more clear. What I meant is do you think having the SJ as a central character (as it seems so far) in the prequel(s) is a good idea?
I personally have always imagined the SJ's ship had been sitting on LV-426 for thousands of years and that Dallas and the rest of the crew were the first humans to come across the SJ and their cargo.
Having invested so much time and interest in wondering about the SJ and the mystery behind the alien I can't help but be extremely worried about what will be explained in this movie.

Giving Giger carte blanche makes me afraid. Very afraid. I should have been more clear. What I meant is do you think having the SJ as a central character (as it seems so far) in the prequel(s) is a good idea? I know you're not talking to me, but I think it's a terrible idea. Demystifying the Jockeys is a mistake, IMO. They might be able to change my mind on this, but I kind of doubt it.

I think one problem with the other directors is they don't actually know where the roots are

... or they had a bad case of blond roots! I know it's bad, but I felt like it.

I've just started following this recently. I'm skeptical about it and my expectations are also low. IMO, nothing can ever best the original Alien. I'm so tired of sequels and prequels.

Maybe we won't see too much of the SJ, just whatever spectacular being emerged from it cos that hole in it's chest is pretty big.

Sebastian! Just stopped by to check out the prequel chatter. Really what I'm doing is procrastinating; I have exams this week.

just a minor thing hear, but in the above article, Ridley says: "it's set in 2085, about 30 years before Sigourney Weaver's character Ellen Ripley" . But isn't Alien thought to be set in 2122, 57 years before Aliens which it's stated happens in 6/12/79, in which case shouldn't this prequel be set around 2092?
