I have begun an ambitious diorama and I am documenting the construction process on video. Check out "The Alien Queen Diorama Project" on YouTube part 1 and part 2. Part 3 is the "new and improved" AQDP! The intro was reworked and given a major adrenalin boost. Additionally, this video is heavy on building sequences, light on philosophizing, and sprinkled with a dose of humor. Constructive comments and feedback is most welcome!

This is looking pretty nice, the amount of detail is amazing. I'm anxious to see the finished product.

Recently, I've been messing with my old Blackberry. Although it is no longer hooked onto the cellular network, it is still fully functional otherwise. I plan to mount it on a wall as a computer screen! It will be encased in a box with a removable front panel so the phone can be easily retrieved. The box and panel will disguise the phone and allow only the screen to show. I can loop videos or slide shows on that thing! How cool is that! It will certainly add a touch of realism to the diorama. The work continues!

In a word: Awesome! I love seeing projects like this. I'm looking forward to additional updates. I'm also moving this thread to the Synth Lab since it's better suited for that board. Keep up the fantastic work. ...I envy your skills!

Wow, that is awesome! I'll be keeping a close eye on your posts. Keep up the good work! I enjoyed watching your three video's. The project is so cool I was just focused on the computer screen and listened. I really like how in your first video you were taking about how the humans and the queen were nose to nose with only glass separating them and how holding the aliens captured like slaves would bring consequences. I never looked at it that way. It's really creepy when you think about it.

Thanks so much for the feedback, everyone! I just came up from the basement to take a break from the project. The plastic sheets that will comprise the right side hallway wall are cut. I still have to cut and install its skeletal support structure. I'm also experimenting with resin casting, which is something I have not done in the past and that I will discuss in part 4. Have you ever come across interesting food packaging and said to yourself: "Now that would make a cool model part! Just wish I had a dozen more like it". A very interesting little tray from a pack of Kashi cookies caught my eye the other day. Since the resin curing process is highly exothermic, I cannot pour casting resin directly into the flimsy cookie tray. It would melt for certain. So yesterday, I poured plaster into the tray to cast a mold master. I will then use this plaster master to cast a silicone rubber mold. If all this works, then this technique will open up a world of possibilities! Think of all the intricate, futuristic shapes you could cast from the packaging we throw away every day! Thanks again for all of your kind words of support!

I used to work for Unilever Cosmetics (before it was sold off to Coty), and nearly every day I would come across bottle concepts, cap concepts, compact concepts, and even existing product components and packaging and think the same thing... "Wouldn't that make a cool model part!" ...Of course with all of that thinking I never got around to building any of the models I had planned. ...Perhaps this summer I'll actually build my M41A Pulse Rifle, my VP-70, or my Motion Tracker.

Well, It sure has been a while since I updated everyone on the project! Progress on the diorama was ongoing throughout the year, but in fits and starts due to work constraints. But now that I am done with teaching until August, I can fully immerse myself into this project. Here are photos of the pieces thus far.Another video is currently in production and I will notify everyone here the moment it is posted. More to come, and thanks for your comments!
