I just received an email pointing me to this... well, hold onto your butts folks, but it looks like the infamous Cocooned Burke sequence from ALIENS will be on the Blu-Ray Anthology! As of July 5, 2010 the BBFC posted this information to their site: This work was passed with no cuts made.
The BBFC has placed this work in the ADDITIONAL PRODUCTION MATERIAL genre(s). The main spoken language in this work is English.
Directed by James Cameron The cast for this work includes: Sigourney Weaver, Carrie Henn, Michael Biehn, Lance Henriksen, Paul Reiser.
When submitted to the BBFC the work had a running time of 1m 30s.
This work was submitted to the BBFC by Twentieth Century Fox Home Ent. . Twentieth Century Fox Home Ent. identified this work as Additional material.
ALIEN ANTHOLOGY - DELETED SCENE - BURKE COCOONED Run Time 1m 30sAs was passed on to me James Cameron had to sign off on this in order for this to happen. What is still uncertain is if this will be re-inserted into the film, or added to the list of bonus material. Also what is a little unclear is if this will appear on North American versions, or just the European - as this information is appearing on the BBFC's site. Here's keeping our fingers crossed it will be here in North America too! Click here to see the official posting of this info.

Howdy folks -- I viewed this cut Burke cocoon scene while working on the ALIEN: ANTHOLOGY Blu-Ray set -- and can confirm that it is indeed included on the set. - Jay

Hi Mike -- it's being treated as a "bonus feature"-- so it's not being cut back into the film itself... unless there's perhaps some "last minute decision" to do so...! But as is -- I think it will just remain a bonus feature. I think you'll dig it... this of course is Cameron's mirroring of the Brett and Dallas cocoon sequence that was ultimately restored in the ALIEN 2003 Director's cut. I got to see various outtakes/angles of this scene -- it's definitely an "heirloom" for ALIEN aficionados...! I also checked out a lot of outtakes from the original ALIEN in helping choose prospective inclusions for the set -- Scott shot some incredible footage of the ALIEN that has never been released -- hope some of that makes it onto the final set too...! - Jay

Thanks again, Jay. I figured it would likely be a stand alone bit of bonus material. Cams may have signed-off on including it in the Anthology, but he's long stood by his decision to keep it out of the film. As cool as it would be to see it in the context of the overall film, I will still be beside myself with joy to just see the 1:30 clip on its own.
Jay, can you speak for the quality of the clip? Is it raw footage, or was it been edited and cleaned up prior to being pulled from the film?

Are there any other deleted scenes? Also, are they Alien3 deleted scenes (stuff not in the SE but can be found online leaked from somewhere) somewhere to be found in the set?

Suck me sideways!!! amazing!! Why can't they just include the lot? everything in!! can just be bonus footage that's cool but I just wanna see every bit ever filmed for all Alien flicks hehe The Burke scene is where Ripley gives him a grenade to kill himself right? And to think we here in little England are getting this!! its usually the other way around hehe

Hi Mike -- the quality of the Burke cocoon sequence was excellent from what I saw -- taken from the original film (not copies of copies of a video, etc.) -- and while I saw various angles/takes of the scene, it's now been edited together as it otherwise would've appeared if it was in the film. In regard to additional scenes and outtakes, there will be additional items that have never been released before as well. - Jay

This is the "box" scene which can be found in the Heavy Metal Alien Illustrated Story. It is a short clip where Ripley is making here way to the shuttle. But rather than the Alien surprising her she turns the corner to see it folder in a box like shape. Apparently she gets a very good look at it as it unfolds and stands up. Do you know if this clip will make it into the set?

I thought that was only in the Heavy Metal comic. Something sort of similar to it was shot, but it wasn't like the comic - largely because getting the visual to work the way it did in the comic would have been next to impossible. ...we actually had a discussion about this a couple of years ago: clicky

It was talked about specifically in the extras of the old Special Edition laserdisc. Also on the recent expended soundtrack release there is the unreleased piece of music from that scene.
