I think the main reason he's pissed is because he's missing out on all the special features and deleted scenes that didn't make it into the Quad.
But yeah, sooner or later you'll have to get a blu-ray player. It's just evolution, man.

DVD 480p.
Blu-ray 1080p.
Trust me, there's a difference. I have both formats, you won't want to watch DVD again after watching Blu-ray.
Fixed. I think the main reason he's pissed is because he's missing out on all the special features and deleted scenes that didn't make it into the Quad.

OK, I can accept this. Fox should release it on DVD as well, non-HD people do get a raw deal because going to BD if you have an SDTV (or a smaller HDTV) isn't really worth it.

I've seen The Dark Knight on blu-ray. Nice as it was, I still have no desire to replace my dvd. There's a lot of high colour shit out there that should definitely be seen on blu-ray, but the format really doesn't blow my mind to the point where I want to repurchase everything I've got.
Hell, I wouldn't go out of my way to buy this set if it wasn't for the re-recorded dialogue for Alien 3 and the uncut Making Of.

IMO, for most movies DVD is 'close enough'. But the movies I really love...I want to see every piece of grain, every detail from a set, every drop of sweat on an actor's face.
Also, BD done right feels closer to film because there are so few digital artifacts. Fewer things queering the organic nature of film gives you a more accurate representation of the look and feel of the medium in it's truest form.
...on the right display.

I have BR and its great for afew things I have eg. Iron Man, Hellboy 2, 300, Blade Runner etc...but most others are not much different from DVD. Like DVD the transfers get sloppy with the majority of releases, if the people behind the scenes make the effort then it can be amazing to see but unfortunately not all BR's are given the right amount of tlc.
Two classic's on BR still not given tlc....The Crow and Robocop

I wouldn't mind seeing Jurassic Park on Blu-ray... IMO, for most movies DVD is 'close enough'. But the movies I really love...I want to see every piece of grain, every detail from a set, every drop of sweat on an actor's face.
I definitely do agree with you there though.

DVD is "close enough"?! It's less than half the resolution...! I've got a 42" LCD LED fully backlit 240 Hz TV and I've watched both DVD and BR on it and BR is hands down better every time. Every movie is better on BR. Some, like the new Star Trek or something similar, is much more noticeable, but everything looks better on BR. Fixed. Thanks!

If the Dark Knight bluray doesn't impress you, nothing will lol. Either your abit blind or your TV setup is no good.

When I first got my 52" 120hz TV and put in The Dark Knight...I was pretty floored. The chase scene was like almost 3D.
Don't get me wrong, Hicks. Blu-ray is great, and I can look at whatever is on my screen and gauge easily if it's in HD or not. But the media is not the message. DVDs are usually in the movie's IAR (Intended Aspect Ratio) and when done right free of any major technology-based flaws like video interference, tracking, compression artifacts, interlacing, generational degradation, chroma bleeding, dirty heads, lousy color reproduction, etc.

If the Dark Knight bluray doesn't impress you, nothing will lol. Either your abit blind or your TV setup is no good. First of all, feck orf, my eyes are fine. Secondly, we've got a 42" backlit LCD TV, 5.1 surround system, the works and I said the film looked nice enough, sharp picture and all that, but it didn't blow my mind to the point where I needed to replace my dvd. The films that've impress me on blu-ray so far are the likes of Star Trek, Baraka, Sunshine, Up, The Fall, Hellboy II, etc.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I was definitely impressed, It was certainly a sight to see, but like I say, it didn't make me want to rush out and grab another copy just to replace my dvd.
To be honest, I think it all boils down to the film's colour palette more than anything. While the films I mentioned are full of bright colours, TDK is a deliberately murky looking film, which, in my opinion, makes for less of an eyepopping blu-ray experience.
Oy, I can already hear beckmen sharpening his axe.

I haven't and won't replace my movies I already have on DVD. I have invested a small fortune in them, and I'll be fucking damned if I'm going to start my collection from scratch all over again.
Oldboy, my favourite movie ever, is the exception. To this day it's the only film I have in both DVD and BD.
I am, however, planning to make another exception with the Alien-movies.
