question

Dear moderators/admins, may I please send a few members here private messages asking them if they want to join my forum? It's not like I'd spam people about it, I'll just ask them if they're interested, and if they are, then they can join and post, if not, that's okay too. It's not related to money or "rewards" or scams or anything like that, it's just a forum, similar to this one. So, may I please have your permission to send people private messages? Also, may I please post a topic about my message board on your forum?

Greetings, and welcome to AXP. Instead of sending members PMs why not make a banner for you signature going back to your site? Or a text link? Or add it to your profile. Your intentions may be good, but it's generally frowned upon to join a community to pimp your own site. Stick around, become a respected member of the community first, then see if anyone is interested. Joining a site and asking people to join your site on the same day is not only looked down upon, but I doubt many of the folks you PM will follow up on joining your site. They don't know you, and you haven't shown that you are a respectable member of the community. Right now, what you are asking is the same as going door to door to sell a product. If people don't know you they are more apt to shut the door in your face than listen to you. I would also suggest not PMing specific individuals. This raises the question of "why are you not offering the invitation to everyone?" It makes you look like an elitist snob... which would bring us right back to how people in the community perceive you. Offering the invitation to only a select few will likely gain you less respect in the eyes of many, and fewer new members to your site in the long run. If I got such a PM I wouldn't join for the very reasons I just mentioned. I respect your enthusiasm to get your site up and running, and I understand where you are coming from, but I think you will see that becoming a regular and respected member of the community will gain you more members. And for the record: joining a site to fill peoples PM inboxes with invitations to join another site does constitute spam in these here parts. ...I've gotta say that the fact that you have not listed your site in your profile, but you want to PM folks and invite them to join makes me very suspicious.
