I thought the accepted theory regarding anti-matter is that it is almost exactly the same as regular matter except that it's oppositely charged? And that in the beginning, during the Big Bang, matter and anti-matter battled it out and matter won only because there was slightly more matter than anti-matter in the Universe. The rest just canceled each other out.

Anti-matter and Matter is simply an electron going backwards and forwards in time many many times.
Richard Feynman, who was studying Paul Dirac's work on the electron, found something rather odd. Simply put, he reversed time in Dirac's equation, and the equation remained the same if he also reversed the electrons charge. So it became a Positron (I think).
Which, means that an electron going backwards in time, is the same as an antielectron going forward in time. This represented the motion of Anti-Matter. When an electron and an anti electron collide the produce a burst of Gamma Radiation.
Feynman then drew this on paper, and then rewrote the diagram with the arrow of time reversed and the charge of the anti electron reversed (a normal electron going backwards in time). This made it look like the electron was going forward in time, then suddenly decides to reverse direction.
The electron that did a u-turn in time is now going backwards in time, releasing a burst of energy while doing so.
So, Feynman suggested that the electron - antielectron annihilation process was just the same electron deciding to go backwards in time. Basically he proved (to my knowledge) that Anti-Matter was simply Matter going backwards in time.
And with a bit more maths and people doing there thang, you can come to the conclusion that there is simply one-electron in a lump of matter. And a cloud of Matter - Antimatter collisions is just the same electron going back in forth in time zillions of time.
It seems to me as we go further into physics, Physics is just Trolling us.

So if we just get a bunch of them and set them to A-B Repeat - infinite energy. Trolling indeed...

Yep. you just can't use any of that energy without killing the repeating bit. Nature has a great sense of humour about those kind of things.

The more I learn of science, the more I come to realise that the universe is just fucking with us.
John Wheeler - the guy who gave Feynman the idea for positrons being 'backward' electrons, and the single electron universe - came up with one of the most impressive interpretations of just how much the universe could be fucking with us. He was at one of those wild physics parties, so wild that they were playing twenty questions. When it came to his turn, he noticed that the more questions he asked, the longer it took to get the answer back. Finally, around question 19 or something, he asked whether it was a cloud. There was a very long delay, and then somebody said yes. Wheeler asked what was going on there, and the other party goers replied that they were fucking with him. They'd never known what the final answer was going to be, but they had a rule that all answers must be consistent with those they'd given previously. So in the end they had no choice, based on the answers they'd given Wheeler, to say it was a cloud. Wheeler was suitably impressed with the way this matched the way 20th Century physics was progressing! He came up with the idea of the participatory universe. The universe doesn't know what it is yet. Every time we run an experiment it has to give us an answer, and that answer has to be consistent with all the answers it's given previously, no matter how weird the outcome is to us (like, say, the double slit experiment). As a result, the universe is making itself up the more we learn about it.
