^ It can still cause damage if it comes too close but doesn't hit, I believe, thats the worry, if it hits thats the worst case scenario.

The trail's gonna be little more than dust, if it has one.  And it'll be following the same trajectory as the asteroid, so if the asteroid doesn't hit us...

The only thing I can think of is if it collides with a satellite, which'll be bad news for the satellite.

Yeah, I don't know what you're getting at, unless you're disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing, but the only danger of the asteroid passing by us that close is, as I mentioned, if it gets caught in one of those keyholes which puts it in an orbit to come back and tag us. Otherwise nothing will happen. Think about it, the moon is much bigger than any asteroid that's going to hit us, and about the only influence the moon has on the Earth is the tides. So if you're thinking the gravity of the asteroid will do something to the Earth, or something along those lines, you're wrong.

When it's close enough.  Good luck trying to spot it now!

But I think the ISS is much brighter than 99942 Apophis will be on its closest fly-by.

I'd be more likely to run for the binoculars or telescope!
