Since we're playing the "who's in talks" game, Bloody Disgusting has exclusively learned of two more names interested in joining Ridley Scott's deep space horror Alien. Both Anne Hathaway (Passengers) and James Franco (Rise of the Apes) could be suiting up for the prequel penned by "Lost" scripter Damon Lindelof. Neither are signed on at this point, but you can add them to the long list of potential suiters including Natalie Portman, Noomi Rapace and Carey Mulligan, Twentieth Century Fox is working fast, so expect some official announcements in the coming weeks.Source: Bloody DisgustingI like them both, would be interesting to see how they do in a Space horror film handled by Sir. Ridley Scott.

I like them both, but there are a lot of people I like who I wouldn't want to see in an Alien film. Both of them included.

Good choices. Good actors.
I still think they should get Steve Austin and Gary Daniels for Colonial Marines.

I like them both. James Franco has really weird eyes, evil eyes. Like if you slept in the same room as him he'd kill you in your sleep, just because. Kind of like Gary Sinise. ...but yeah, I really like him.

Currently seeking Jagermeister sponsorship. One'a these days Sean Pertwee's gonna be in a movie where he doesn't die and he's going to kill every motherfucker ever.

I hate to be the buzzkill, but I wish that they would go back to the casting formula of Alien: older and relatively unknown actors.

Oh I agree entirely. But if we're going to get kids, I'm glad they're looking at kids known for their quality acting.

Kids? James Franco is past 30. What does that make me, a toddler?

I wish they'd go back to the casting formula of Alien: experienced actors who can actually act.
Oh wait, they are.

Anne Hathaway I would call "competent". I haven't seen her knock my socks off, though. But she has done legitimate acting work in Havoc, Rachel Getting Married, Brokeback Mountain, etc.
James Franco...well, next month he is starring in a tour de force film directed by Danny Boyle about the experiences on Aron Ralston. I have a feeling the movie will solidify him as a strong acting talent, but time will tell.

Can this wait? I need to do some calibrations

I really don't see why people get annoyed at well known actors getting cast. Why should it matter? The fact they play the character well should be all that matters.

Part of it is personality. Certain actors, are so defined by themselves that they can't melt into a role. Look at Schwarzenegger. He can only play Schwarzenegger. Now granted he is the most extreme example of this, but some actors have the same thing going on to a lesser extent, but still enough to cause concern about suspension of disbelief.
Personally, as long as they are right for the role, I don't have a problem with it. Natalie Portman or Anne Hathaway as a USCM General...I'm gonna have a tough time buying that. Those rumors sound too outlandish to be true, though.

Then again if you cast an unknown 24 year old actress as a USCM general, you would have the same problem.
If they are well known or not should be no bases on to be pissed off. I would suggest, that it is infact better to cast actors who are more well known, so you can make a more informed decision about whether you would agree with them in that role. Casting an unknown, presents a bigger risk as far as I see it.
Being annoyed, because they are a well known or an oscar winning actor, is just moronic. If they are a bad actor or a one trick pony, and famous then go ahead, be annoyed.
