I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he meant that, since North and South Korea have been in a rather strained cease-fire for more than half a century, he presumes the status quo will prevail and this aggressive bullshit will eventually settle down like it always does.

I'm of the same opinion.

No fucking kidding.

You call it a situation that's not serious when your relative gets killed by a North Korean barrage.

Perpetual war, my friends. Perpetual war. Almost rhymes with 1984.

The U.S sent a carrier to help train South Korean troops, from November 28 to December something. What do think North Korea is going to do after they once again threatened to launch a larger attack much worse than before if the they continue their plans.

Well, like Hieronymus, I don't expect them to do much.  The artillery shelling was a show of strength on their part, the US aircraft carrier a show of strength on the US/South Korea's part.  It's very much gunboat diplomacy.  This round's been started by the lack of a sufficiently enthusiastic response to North Korea's overly subtle attempts at some form of reconciliation a couple of months back - it's not gearing up for war and neither are South Korea.
