What do you guys all think? will the earth be struck by a huge comet/asteroid? massive earthquakes causing tidalwaves? certain volcanoes will erupt? or will we all blow ourselves to kingdom come?? (that could be anyone!)

Personally I don't know what to think, I'm not a big religious man but I do have beliefs in the supernatural and respect legends or cultural theories, I admit I like a good yarn or 'spooky' tale/fable/legend whatever you wanna call it and this is something that I do find interesting. You won't catch me mocking this kind of theory just incase hehe not totally political I know but if we are all gonna meet our end from a nuclear war then it would be hehe

Why people think its the end is beyond me. The Mayan calender simply runs out, it doesn't mean its the end of the world.

This type of discussion seems more suited for the Galley or the Science board, methinks.

As for 2012, as others have said it's just some old calendar ending. Besides, even many of the New Age folk state that it only signifies a new spiritual era (which would conveniently only be felt by said New Age folk), not the end of the world.

Meh, my official polivy on the Science board is that pseudoscience is allowed for interest's sake. Stuff like this generally leads to interesting debates on scientific merit and whatnot. Not to mention, not everyone agrees on what is pseudoscience and what isn't. It's pretty obvious that this 2012 thing is pseudoscience, but creationism and extraterrestrial life (specifically UFO's) are more controversial.
