Take this with a customary pinch of salt, but an 'exclusive source' has told Sky movies that Ridley Soctt's Prometheus, built upon the bones of an Alien prequel project, is indeed still an Alien prequel... "They've built the 'space jockey' cockpit at Pinewood as seen in the original Alien film, so it definitely takes place in the same world as Alien", they told us. "Despite that press release that seemed to indicate there were no aliens in the movie, the familiar HR Giger-style aliens do appear. Big ones apparently."
And as for Scott's comments noting that "keen fans will recognise strands of Alien's DNA"?
It turns out there was the slightest hint of misdirection - apparently the actual DNA of the xenomorphs is integral to the plot - and will see the cast jet off to the alien homeworld itself.
"Part of the film will be shot in Morocco. I've heard that some sort of archaeological dig where they discover alien DNA takes place there and that DNA gives them the coordinates for an alien world. I've also heard Morocco is being used for alien planet landscapes so I'm not sure if it's an archaeological dig on another planet," they revealed.
It gets weirder too, with Damon Lindelof's script set to crank up the sci-fi angle to maximum effect. "The main spaceship in the film will be piloted by an enormous head which I assume will be CGI. Yep, sounds weird but I assume some of the technology will be sort of biomechanical."http://movies.sky.com/exclusive-prometheus-plot-reveal-aliens-are-in-itIn other news reported today, Michael Fassbender has allegedly been cast in Prometheus, and the film has been moved to a June 8th 2012 release date.

Until Scott himself says, "Yeah, you got punk'd for a moment there!" I'll remain wary.

I suspect we'll only find out for sure until we've seen the film. And even then, opinions may be divided.
Until then, we've got 18 months of rumour and speculation!
But if the above is true, Scott's got an interesting way of working. First we get a Robin Hood film that's not actually about the Robin Hood legend but events leading up to it. Then this.

Saying it's not an Alien film until it actually premieres is a good move, if you ask me. People won't be able to bitch about how "the aliens are hardly in it". Keep the title free of the word 'Alien' as well.
I think more scifi flicks should be set in the same universe as others, only tenuously related films.

As usual we get no info except a month before release when we'll get oversaturated with stuff.

I personally like the sound of this. Beckman has the right idea too. Keep films within the same universe is a good move.

I am a big fan of Scott's films and of course love all things Alien. But if this story is true and the film is done right I will be a happy fan, but part of me does not want an Alien prequel as it takes away the mystrey off the Space Jockey and the Aliens, but once again the inner geek would love to c it. So I am on the fence at the moment and plus the AVP movies are my main guilty pleasure and also love Alien 3 the workprint and Alien Resurrection.
