Entertainment Weekly had a chance to talk to Michael Fassbender about Prometheus, and found the following tidbits: Fassbender says he's thrilled to have been cast because he considers himself a drooling Alien fan. "Alien and Aliens, both of them," he says. "And [Scott's] Blade Runner, which I recently watched again. I'm really looking forward to stepping into a Ridley sci-fi world. And the script is really intelligent and has a nice pace to it. Plus, if I'm honest with you, I sort of approach my work as a fan. I'm a massive movie fan and I like to go on an adventure ride as much as I like to see something that has a bit of social commentary to it."
Fassbender, who was mostly tight-lipped, toes the company line that Prometheus is not an Alien prequel. "It's a different story, but it’s also got the traditional roots. Alien fans will recognize things in it. It's not ignoring Alien, there's still a link to that world. But it's a different story. It's definitely connected, though." When asked if he'd be playing an android in the film, Fassbender laughs, "I don't know what I can say!" But as he says this, he glances down at a damning tape recorder between us and nods affirmatively. "I don’t want to get into trouble..."http://insidemovies.ew.com/2011/02/25/michael-fassbender-prometheus-aliens/

This "it's not a prequel, but definitely connected to the original" talk sure sounds like it's a (sorry, I hate this term) reboot to me.

I don't know, it could be set in the same universe as Alien like Outland was (what? yes it was!).
It's weird, but for some reason I'm not hyped at all that Ridley Scott is making another Sci Fi film.

Currently seeking Jagermeister sponsorship. One'a these days Sean Pertwee's gonna be in a movie where he doesn't die and he's going to kill every motherfucker ever.

Or like Jackie Brown and Out of Sight. And possibly The Transporter and Collateral.

Michael Mann on the commentary Statham's character is just some gangster from London.
Ridley Scott said Blade Runner takes place in the Alien universe.

The crew of the Nostromo must have been raking it in to afford that cat! This "it's not a prequel, but definitely connected to the original" talk sure sounds like it's a (sorry, I hate this term) reboot to me.
What were the AVP films? They were reboots and prequels and a separate franchise, all rolled into one. Same with this, I imagine, although the handling will almost certainly be better.

I always just considered it a separate franchise as the concept has existed for a long time (in comics, novels, video games, blah, blah, blah). I definitely didn't consider them reboots to the Alien franchise, however.

Or like Jackie Brown and Out of Sight. And possibly The Transporter and Collateral. And like Bambi and Godzilla. Wait: that really did happen...
