I'm not that big a fan of the LOTR trilogy (fantasy bugs me a bit), but news doing the rounds recently was that Peter Jackson would not be involved in the two Hobbit films, leading to a major fan backlash. Even Sam Raimi was said to have been offered the directorship (I don't think any director would want to fill Jackson's shoes).

Obscenely fanatical fans should now be happy (or more hopeful anyhow) after Zaentz (the rights to Tolkien's work will apparently revert to him in a year or so) had this to say.

I didn't even know about Jackson's law suit against New Line before this.

I may have been here from the start, but how many of you have gotten more involved than I ever was since I left? I feel so inaequate. It's a good thing I've a massive knob.

Interesting.  Hadn't heard this latest development.  It appears that what New Line were saying was true in that, they wanted to get cracking on the LOTR prequels due to time constraints, and the Wingnut lawsuit was holding things up.

Been a while since this thread had any activity, but I see no reason to start a new thread...

Muthaflippin word!

This is going to be fecking awesome.

Interesting to see all the familiar people they got back.  But then to not get back people like Howe, Lee or even Kieran Shah, seems a bit dumb.

I am so excited! And I love those sets visits!

I will be following TheOneRing.net just as I did with the other movies.

YAY!

Looks OK. I only vaguely recall the book, but compared to LOTR it's pretty small potatoes. The trailer seems to indicate more buffoonery and comic bits than epic battles and the struggle against evil. Still, should be fun.

Not sure I got the same from the trailer.  It starts out light-hearted, but it becomes more serious and dark as the trailer progresses.  I think it conveys the message that the adventure is anything but safe for Bilbo and party.

I haven't really been following this... how many films are set to be in The Hobbit?

Ah good, was thinking it was only the one film. After reading the book I thought it was abit much to pack into one film.

You could pack it all into one film, as it's not a terribly long book.  However it would seem they're going to draw on the White Council/ Necromancer stuff which is mentioned in passing in the book and actually show us what happened.
