This weeks edition of GTTV with Geoff Keighley features a "first look" at Gearbox's upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines. First off, the footage shown looks absolutely stunning! The lighting and textures are just gorgeous. The models are spot on. And the animations look fluid and extremely life-like. I don't think this game will have any problems looking good, or sounding good, for that matter. Secondly, still no ADS! What is it about the Aliens/ AVP gaming universe that refuses to add in ADS! Only every FPS in the next generation platform universe uses it and still the Aliens franchise is back in 1999 with hipfire only! Gah! Gearbox executive, Randy Pitchford, also talks to GTTV about some of the types of aliens you'll see in the game, notably the "runner" alien (sigh) and... wait for it... the "crusher" alien. A triceratops-like alien with a larger dome similar to the Queen (who will also be making an appearance in the game) that can deflect pulse rifle bullets. Here's hoping I'm actually asleep right now and Randy Pitchford, for some reason, has chosen to appear in my current nightmare with this news. I mean, crusher alien... really? Is that what we needed? Quick, someone take Pitchford's Kenner toys away from him before we end up with gorilla or scorpion aliens! Ahem, I'll be alright. Now, my ranting aside, checkout the footage, and the interview with Pitchford, who also confirms that the man himself Syd Mead worked on the game for Gearbox, as well as four player co-op and competitive multiplayer modes will be included in the game, over at the home of GTTV, GamesTrailers.com.

I didn't want to say it but the gameplay looks really bad. Doesn't look like any fun at all and it feels more like a comic book sequel than a "true" sequel to the movies.
Truly hoping I'm wrong since I've been extremely excited about this game since the get-go, especially considering that I'm a huge fan of Gearbox. I'm cautiously optimistic, I guess.
I just wish Randy Pitchford would shut the fuck up for a minute.

Watching it tight now, looks pretty freaking awesome so far, but there was a shot of the FPS character holding the Alien away with a gun... You can't do that.

You mean when the Marine fights it off with the shotgun? Yeah, that's stirred up some controversy before (not the first time that footage was shown).

Right I know I've seen it before. I'm just getting tired of this bullshit attitude that Aliens are mere insects that you can swat away. Their entire body is a weapon, so how can anyone (a human especially) just hold one back? Even if you block it with your measly hands, its tail swings around and cuts your head off. Even worse was in the new AvP game where you can just punch them away when the screen tells you to. It made the game about timing instead of strategy or skill. Completely destroyed the mood.

All you have to do is watch the end of Alien when the Big 'Un kills Parker. Parker is a beast of a man and the alien simply destroys him. They are incredibly strong (also see how they punch through a steel door in Aliens) but this game makes it look like your fighting off a slightly unamused poodle, not an uncompromising killing machine.

It doesn't help that AvPR enforced the Predator fanboy mentality of "oh wow Predators look so buff they must be stronger" when Scar holds back two Aliens and then the Predalien. Then you've got Steve Perry on the other hand saying Aliens are "stupid" and everyone buys it all.

Didn't a woman hole one down with her foot for a little bit before shooting it in the head a few times? A woman (possibly mistaken for a man), holding ones head down with her foot...

I'm not trying to keep copping out, but I think that Alien fell out of a vent and was trying to right itself. Plus, it's not like she held it by the throat while it squirmed around. She quickly kicked it against a wall and started shooting it in the head.

If a rabid 200 pound rottweiler was next to me I could probably kick it's head against a wall and pin it there long enough to shoot it with a pistol, but if it was on top of me snarling, snapping and biting at me I'd have a lot harder time pushing it off. Especially if it had opposable thumbs, a spear-like tail, and an extendible inner jaw.

I am not saying anyone could or could not pin it there. I am just looking at it semi-realistically. It took shot after shot after shot in the head, didn't die, but didn't seem the need to pull away or push on/away with nothing more than the leg press of a hundred and forty pound female holding it back?
As for kicking it against the vent, I would not call it a kick. More a stomp and press. But that is splitting hairs. And for it "falling" through the vent? I don't buy that at all. If that is the case, and accidents happen even to the most perfect of species, then them walking on walls and all that other abilities they have goes right out the window.
But, this is a thread about games. This might make a good topic elsewhere. In closing though, i see both your points, but disagree with them as well. The leg pin is more feesable than me grabbing one and throwing it around. 100% agree with that.
